This Week’s Vintage Finds #16
I hit a couple of sales this week-end–an estate sale and a “garage sale” at the Italian American Museum. Nothing spectacular, but shopping is always fun 🙂 I liked the Lucite container on the left and hope to offer it for sale in my Etsy store, along with the milk glass vase on the right. It’s an interesting shape and has a satin finish that I’ve never seen before. I’m honestly not sure why I bought the tray in the back, except I seem to be developing a tray “thing” now. It needs to be seriously upcycled. The baby-name book is from the 60’s, and I thought some 20-somethings out there would be interested. It’s going on Etsy, along with the vintage hanger thing-y in the front. I paid $5 for everything.
I got this at the estate sale. This is the second outdoor light fixture that I’ve bought in the last month! You can see how I turned the first one into a cloche/lantern-y thing. This one here needs some serious cleaning up!
I also found a few pieces of jewelry. Up top is a sterling bracelet and below that a child’s beaded necklace. I think I’d like to put charms on both of them. That would be sweet, wouldn’t it? Below is a Marcasite and chain maille choker that I’ve already listed on Etsy. And the bottom is just a costume, silver-tone chain that I’ll use for a future pendant or charm. All four cost $8. I didn’t think that was too bad.
I’ve been wanting to get some stain to use in altered art projects to help age things. The Tim Holtz stuff is so expensive! I’m going to give the stain a try as an alternative. At 99 cents, I could afford it. The two rosettes were just 50 cents each. I’ve seen several versions of the “LOVE” signs using a rosette for the “O.” Now I just ned some Ls, Vs, and Es!
I found this painting attractive in a naive, untrained art sort of way. It’s a standard size, so I might have just the right frame in the vast collection that populates my work room and my garage. Sigh.
That’s it for this week’s vintage finds. If you live in the Northeast, I hope you are tucked safely inside. Otherwise, I wish you all a happy week-end of thrifting!
Bye for now,

Fabulous stuff here! Your post reminded me of an estate sale back in the seventies; a lovely old stone farmhouse was being sold to some company, and they cleared out everything .My son was about 7 years old at the time, and he chose a couple of things as well. I remember purchasing an apron. I wish I still had it! Once the ice and snow have melted I can do a little vintage shopping myself. It's going to be in the 70's (!!!) next week.
Thanks Mary Ann! My kids have found some great things as well. Last summer my son found a cross bow at one sale and a paint gun plus accessories at another. He's a die hard fan of sales now! You'll be in the 70s and we'll still be stuck in the 20s ;/ But I'm not jealous…Blessings–
Oh my, where do I start! I love all you fabulous finds. Old jewelry and the milk glass vase is so pretty! Thanks for sharing at TTF!
Linda
Thanks Linda, and thanks for holding the party 🙂
I collect primitive art too. The lantern light fixture is my favorite.
Thanks for stopping by Donna 🙂
Love the lantern!
Glad you stopped by!
Great finds, that light fixture is super cool! I really like that painting, looks like it's an enchanted forest. Thank you for sharing this at my History & Home link party this week! Take care – Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
Thanks Dawn! Yes, I'm looking forward to tearing it apart and cleaning it–turning it into something functional 🙂
