Testing [My Fabulous] New Stencils

Hi everyone! I had a fun-filled week-end with some garage-saling, crafting, and celebrating. One of my favorite annual neighborhood sales is always held the third week-end in May: the Woodlawn Sale (Schenectady, NY). I shopped on Friday and Saturday. In between, I used my brand new Consumer Crafts stencils, and Saturday evening we celebrated my sister’s birthday.

Stencils

I stumbled upon Consumer Craft’s online store last week and their low prices impressed me. Each of these stencils cost $5.00, much lower than I found anywhere else. My local craft stores didn’t have any French inspired choices, and that’s what I was looking for.

stenciled terra cotta pots with herbsI achieved three slightly different looks by leaving out some of the extra curly ques. I like the plain one the best (far left), and gave that one to my sister. I get to keep the one on the right. I filled them with basil, oregano, and rosemary.

stenciled bread boardAfter finishing my pots, I dug through my workroom to find more junk beautiful objects to stencil. I had set aside this interesting, oval bread board for just such a project as this. It came out beautifully, in part, because of a terrific stenciling trick I just read about: don’t use special stenciling brushes to apply the paint…

…use Dollar Tree make-up sponges! I guarantee you will never go back to your old pouncing brushes or sponges. These dense, foam sponges are one of life’s true miracles. Yep. They were that good. (I wish I could remember the blog I read this tip on.)

Cafe de Paris Stencil on old Cupboard doorYou may remember I recently bought a trio of vintage cupboard doors at the Albany ReStore. I decided to remove the hardware from one and stencil the center. I’m thinking about attaching vintage spoons on either side to cover up the two holes left when I removed the handle. I could also put some knobs along the bottom so it could be used as a hanging rack. What do you think?

  4. That bread board is awesome! You could probably sell it for a pretty penny (but I'd want to keep it!) I'm a sucker for French stencils, always have been, Great prices, they're usually pretty expensive. I already buy those sponges, I'll have to try them on my next project. And I have whitewashing pots on my list of things to do….so many projects, so little time:)

  6. Hi Diana, why couldn't you stencil a flourish around the edge of the Café de Paris sign and just strategically cover the holes with the stencil paint in doing so? Also, thanks for the dates and tipping everyone of the T Linen sale. Looks like a great place to pick up quality bedding and buy gifts.

  7. Oh, forgot to state, your stenciled items came out great, really makes a statement on everything you do.

  8. Diana, I love the number stencil! I like the plain pot the best also, but they are all sweet. I love the Café sign and your wonderful bread board collection! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
