This Week’s Vintage Finds #77

Hi everyone! Here in the Northeast we skipped spring and went straight to summer(!). The last several days, including last Friday when I was garage saling, have been almost 90 degrees. Crazy. I only allow myself to complain about one season, and I’ve selected summer. It was almost too hot and uncomfortable to garage sale. Oh my. Fortunately, I made some nice purchases, so that almost made up for the heat 🙂

This “green house” is one of my favorite finds of the day. In fact, it’s sitting in the center of my kitchen table right now; it makes me so happy (cost: $3).

I’ve been familiar with Georges Britard, a mid-century designer, for quite a while. You may have seen some of his pieces of decorated glass–often flat, with gold decoration, and his signature. This tray is made of hard plastic with a tile center, and I bought it in the original box.

The price was too low to pass up (cost: 50 cents, value: $12).

More Pyrex! Decorated in the Old Town Blue pattern, the creamer is marked “Corning,” the creamer, “Pyrex.” Corning manufactured Pyrex until 1998, but I think it’s interesting that they have different marks (cost: 25 cents, value: $10). In the center stands a new version of an old Real Lemon juice jug (1 quart size), manufactured by Anchor Hocking (cost: 50 cents, value: $5). It’s a keeper, though. The collectibles rest on a one yard piece of old toweling (cost: 50 cents, value:$4). (Pyrex Love Pattern Guide)

This pretty shell mirror would look terrific in a beach house (cost: $1, value: $25).

I’m pretty much in love with the pearl bracelet (cost: $1, value: $15), but I can’t keep everything, can I? I always scoop up insect pins, especially bees (cost: 50 cents, value: $10). The rhinestone clip-ons were cheap, cheap, cheap (cost: 25 cents each, value: $6-8 each). I’m collecting them to make bracelets some day.

Old minnow buckets make great planters (cost: $1, value: $10).

Hard to pass up pretty birds (cost: 75 cents for six prints).

This is my sixth globe in about eight months. On the diminutive side and manufactured by Repogle, this globe dates to about 2006. While not vintage, it has a great vintage look (cost: $6.00, value: $20) (Dating Globes)

A few fun, miscellaneous vintage and antique items: leather baby shoes (cost: $1, value: $8), prescription bottle (cost: 25 cents, value: $5), and antlers (cost: $4, value: $20).

This Week's Vintage Finds #77

The bells have been attached to a piece of wood that needs removing. They have a lovely, loud ring (cost: $5, value: $25).

This wildflower field guide is filled with pretty illustrations (cost: $1, value: $15).

The gold-plated spectacles (cost: $1, value: $12) are marked 12KGF on the nose bridge. GF stands for gold-filled, which is another way of saying gold-plated.

I admit it; I have a thing for vintage and antique paper goods.

I think this Ivanhoe Historical Notebook must have been the teacher’s copy. It’s pages are filled with this great, old handwriting–useful for craft/art projects (cost: $1).

This Week's Vintage Finds #77

This set of boxy containers has a sort of 1960s vibe to them that I found attractive (cost: $1). I’m not sure what’s to become of them. I’m thinking about painting them and may want to keep them. What do you all think?

This Week's Vintage Finds #77

This photo came out kind of cock-eyed, but this small side table is very solid and has some great lines (cost: $5, value: $35).

I like this little detailing, along with the curvy legs.

Final find: an old Chevy match box. I’ll fill the back end with a bottle brush tree or two at Christmas and be very happy.

Bye for now,

  1. My goodness. I love all these pieces. That teacher's notebook, though, is special! I was a high school English teacher for 37 years; old textbooks and vintage school-related items are favorites. I have my grandmother's French poetry book, given to her in the early 1900's by an aunt, my mother's college botany textbook, my father's German dictionary, and an assortment of other really old books that I've collected over the years, some from family and some from thrift stores. Oh, and I even have my father's US Army manual and medical procedures materials; he was drafted in January of '42 and was in the medical corps.

  2. Love your finds this week. The green house is so nice, love that price you paid. I'm also a fan of the midcentury modern items. Busy week here and no thrifting but I'll find some time to snoop this week I think!
    hugs,
    Linda

  3. Wow! I love all your finds…especially that greenhouse…so cute! The boxes would be cute painted and distressed with little chalkboard labels on the tops or fronts.

  4. Diana,
Love your finds. That little red truck is soooooo sweet. Love your greenhouse too. You hit the jackpot with these finds.

  5. Great finds Diana … I have that same greenhouse … I paid $15.00 for it without glass and cost $20.00 to have glass cut for it … so considering … you got a really nice deal. Also love the little red truck and you will so enjoy that at Christmas. You have such a good eye for treasures and have a pretty good idea what they are worth when you buy them.

  6. Jewelry, minnow bucket and globe are right up my alley! I have a white greenhouse I love, too. I also have that little red truck! What great finds, as usual!

  7. Well if you ask me, I think you hit the jack pot this week! Love the terrarium. I have a couple and love using them. Would love to score a wildflower guide! The bells and the truck are wonderful. I have a red and a green minnow bucket and love planting them! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
