Styling My Foyer for Spring

Decorating is not my strongest suit, but it is something that I do enjoy doing. Usually once I’ve completed a room, it stays that way for quite a while. I might “upgrade” a piece or two a year, but I don’t typically change my mantel out or redo my foyer every year, certainly not every season, like some very talented and creative decorators do! But after seeing posts about beautiful spring decorating ideas, I decided to freshen up my foyer a bit.

I purchased the topiary at a garage sale last summer for $1! And the clock face (and other parts) were a real find from a couple of weeks ago. I talked about it in Vintage Finds #19. You may remember me talking about this wire tray in Vintage Finds #12. I bought it in January at Salvation Army for $2.99. I thought that perhaps I needed something light underneath it, to keep it from blending with the dresser, but when I put a cream runner under it, I wasn’t pleased. What do you think?

I bought these stone fruit at a car boot sale in England. I love the tag so I’ve just left it on. They cost 5£, which is approximately $7.50 for the pair.

You may remember these beautiful fabric roses I wrote about in Vintage Finds #11 back in January. I love them in this aged, trumpet-shaped silver vase that I discovered a couple of years ago at an antique shop for $1(!). Constant Companion Nancy bought me two of the sweet little nests with robin’s eggs years ago.

I thought about doing a tutorial on my burlap banner, but it seems kinda self-explanatory: (1) cut burlap triangles, (2) modge podge edges to prevent fraying, (3) stamp letters using black paint, (4) glue to twine, done!

  1. I love it!!! Your collection of goodies in that tray tell such a fantastic story all their own! And the banner is is just the perfect touch to draw the eye up! Such a wonderful vignette for spring! Happy week friend! Nicole xoxo

  2. Oh, how pretty! I think you're right about leaving off the runner — vintage things look so much nicer sometimes with just good wood. You're so creative! I'm going to start looking for more vintage things later today. Every time I visit your blog I am inspired! Have a blessed and bountiful day!

  3. I love it!! The tray is perfect and grounds the vignette, better without the runner I agree. Love all your special treasures displayed and grouped together. You did a wonderful job! Banner is so cute! Hugs, Linda

  4. It's beautiful, Diana! Love the burlap bunting paired with the pops of color from the topiary, eggs and books! Thanks for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop today! 🙂

  5. Are you kidding? Everything looks perfect! I am not even going to pick apart each of things to tell you how much I adore them. Everything works together wonderfully!

    1. Hi Melanie! I'm glad you like the banner and roses. I really like the banner and plan to make at least one more. I only decorate for Christmas! But after putting away the Christmas, I decided to try something new rather than put back what had been there for the past three years. I'm getting a bit adventurous in my old age 🙂

  6. I like it just how you have it. You did a great job with layering, something I don't think to do enough. I love that tray! Thanks for sharing this at the History & Home Link Party this week! Take care – Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
