This Week’s Vintage Finds #22

It’s still very early in the garage saling season here in upstate New York, but on Friday, Constant Companion, Nancy, and I hit an estate sale, a consignment shop, and a Home Goods. Then on Saturday, I attended one more estate sale and two school garage sales by myself. I came away from my two days with quite a bit of loot 🙂 Below are This Week’s Vintage Finds.
this week's vintage finds
Pretty linens and some pretty glass.
this week's vintage finds linens

Most of these linens have stains, but they were just 10 cents each, so I bought 15 of them. I’m planning to use them for crafts and arty projects. In fact, I’m going to be posting about one of them very soon. Stay posted.

this week's vintage finds flower frog

In this simple compote rest three glass flower frogs. Used to help with arranging flowers, they’re placed in the bottom of a vase or other vessel and flower stems are slotted into the “holes” so the blossoms are separated artfully.

this week's vintage finds fostoria elegant glass

The Fostoria Glass Company (of Fostoria, Ohio) manufactured this beautiful tidbit tray in the Romance pattern. I just love the plumed handle on this piece of elegant glass. For a really great info about Fostoria glass, check out this Ebay article.

this week's vintage finds

I was quite taken with this wooden box with the louvered doors, and then I opened it and discovered this interesting salad set. On the bottom are oil, vinegar, and mustard containers, and on the top are spice holders. They were manufactured in Japan, probably in the 1960s.

Behind the box is a really beautiful aqua blue wool blanket that I’m struggling with whether to sell it or not, since I think the color is just terrific. The upholstery fabric right next to it I bought for $1, and I plan to use it to recover a stool for my master bath to hold clothes while we’re showering. I plan to write a post about my recently renovated bathroom and hopefullly, I’ll have finished this stool upcycle.

this week's vintage finds

Here are some of the more rustic goodies that I found this week-end: another wooden rolling pin, a nice old wooden candlestick in the back, the tartlet pan with the two brush trees leaning on it, and the green-handled cheese cutter.

this week's vintage finds egg basket

I just think egg baskets are so sweet; these are real eggs I grabbed from the fridge for this “photo shoot.”

this week's vintage finds sad iron

I think it’s neat that a sad iron turned up this week. About a month ago, I purchased several cast iron trivets, which are used to hold a hot sad iron to keep it from burning your table. I wrote an article about them if you’d like to learn more about trivets.

That’s all for this week. I hope you enjoyed reading about my loot.

    1. I will go check that out right away, Rita. Some of them are pretty damaged–holes and rips, but there is some beautiful lace and embroidery that's still salvageable. Take care!

  2. Cute cabinet. I would like to rescue some vintage linens too. I was almost ready to turn several old tablecloths into napkins. I will be visiting Rita too.

  3. I enjoyed seeing your vintage finds, especially the Fostoria glass. It looks like you had a good hunting day. Isn't it fun? Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  4. Beautiful finds — I especially like the linens. I'm going to check out Rita's hints. I have a glass platter that looks like that — will also have to check out Ebay article. haha — no wonder I spend so much time on my computer!

  5. Great finds! I just love those embroidered linens. Even if spotted, you can do something with them, and I'm so glad you gave them a new home. Thanks for sharing this at the History & Home Link Party this week! Take care – Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com

  6. Diana your finds are so wonderful. My favorite are the linens…They always seem to call to me when I enter a sale. I have drawers full and have plans for using them up this summer…at least some of them. I am anxious to see what you come up with using them in your projects.
