This Week’s Vintage Finds #10: Stopping by a Church Thrift Shop on a Snowy Day

The Saturday before Christmas, St. George’s, a lovely old, old church in the Stockade District of Schenectady, held a sale in their thrift shop. Basically, everything was 50% off the marked price. I’m not always a big fan of church sales, but I was in the shopping mood (and I never shop retail on the week-end in the month of December). Did I mention that all of the above were 50 cents each?!

While I can’t say I found anything spectacular, I was pleased with what I found: the white plastic finial at the top, the glass star ornament, the sea dollar (spray with mercury glass paint?), and the French book (for tags and altered art projects!).

Two small creamers that I just had to fill with milk to get the full picture. The aqua one on the right is really sweet and quite a bit older than the one on the left.

The basket on the left is the one I scooped up at St. George’s on Saturday. The middle one is currently for sale at my Etsy store, and the one on the right I bought a couple of weeks ago at an estate sale. I’m considering grouping them together, as an “instant collection,” to try and sell them that way. I just love them 🙂

I’m not a big fan of these Bing and Grodahl plates, but this one was $1, so I decided to get it and see if it was sale-able. The creamer on the right is the same one you saw above.

In addition to the above, I also bought a set of really attractive mugs with an American flag motif and a little tin teapot with pretty tole decoration. I’m not showing the teapot because I think I ruined it while trying to remove some grime 🙁 I’ll let you know if I’m able to restore it to its former glory!

Tonight my teenagers are having friends over to welcome in the New Year. I’ll be busy all day making appetizers and other treats for them to enjoy. What have you got planned for tonight? Have you scored any great finds lately? What was it? Tell me; I want to know!
