What to Do with Cruddy Old Pieces of Wood

Hi everyone! I hope you had a nice week-end. I’m still dealing with some uncomfortable, lower back issues, but I managed to hit a few sales with my sweet daughter on Friday. On Saturday friends in Vermont invited us for the day, so with the seat back lowered and an ice pack on my hip, we drove to Vermont, Weย may have stopped at a sale or two on the way. I’ll show off my vintage finds tomorrow. Today I have a quick, DIY signย made from a slab of junky antique wood.

ย I plan to bring it up to my shop next week, priced somewhere around $20.00.

I bought a small grocery bagful of these old hunks of wood at an estate sale for $1.00.
I used industrial style (1.5″) stencils that I purchased at the Habitat Restore not too long ago.
I used my latest stenciling technique: using make-up sponges to apply the paint.
After I finished the lettering, I realized “Antiques” was off-center by about an inch (!).

I scrounged around my work area for a suitable piece of “junk” to add to the sign to make it look like I had stenciled it off-center on purpose.

I think this rusty old lock adds the perfect touch. What do you think?

  2. So sorry you are not feeling well! But happy you can turn a bag of junky wood into some decent cash! Great job on the sign, I think the rusty lock adds a lot to it and people love the industrial style. It was meant to be that way! Hope you are feeling better soon.
