This Week’s Vintage Finds #40
Hi everyone! I went garage saling with my darling girl this past Friday and we had another fabulous day, making some fabulous vintage finds. I’ll share Gracie’s finds later in the week.
I, along with a myriad of others, deeply enjoy ironstone. I love the color, the shapes, and the weightiness of it. This piece, though a reproduction, came at the right price–two bucks–and in the right shape. I’ve wanted a nice big, curvy piece for quite a while, and I find this one very satisfying. Because the bowl is so shallow, the hydrangeas didn’t want to stay upright or even inside the urn, so I grabbed a recently purchased flower frog and put it in the center. Worked like a charm. I’ve bought and sold a number of flower frogs in my day, but this is the first time I’ve ever used one. Made me smile.
I found lots of fun tin things on this trip. I’m calling the cake pan on the right a “French cake tin” because I’ve never seen one like it and it looks very French to me. What do you think? I’ve been collecting nice old bread tins like the one on the left for a project that I hope to complete one day, and the small pie tins I’m thinking I’ll use to make some interesting pedestal stands; there are nine of them. The wire whisk is the most perfectly aged one I’ve ever seen and I love it!
Some more metal wares: the slender scale–to die for, right? Another cake tin, this one fluted. Yes, I’m going to make a pedestal stand with it.
A cool, pierced spatula, a flour scoop (signed on the handle), and an antique, twisted wire something-or-other.
I love old wooden things with beautiful, smooth surfaces. I believe this is a chopping board. A metal tool with a wooden handle and sharp, rounded metal edges would have been used to chop vegetables and other foods in this. Correct me, please, if I’m wrong.
I cannot decide whether this is some sort of souvenir tchotcke or a valuable, 17th century carving.
The bottom shows some signs of real age with its oxidized (darkened) surface and rusty nails. Thoughts?
Believe it or not, but these mirrors were all in a free box at one garage sale. None of them is in fantastic shape, except the pink one, which is magnified on one side. I’m going to keep that one. I keep thinking I’m going to try to do some kind of craft/lifestyle/vintage sale someday, and if I do, I’ll need mirrors so people can try on some of the jewelry that I make. So I tucked the two in the center into my “craft sale” box boxes. Not sure about the other two. Hey, free is free.
Isn’t this cool? I found these two piece separately. I’m not sure what the large enamel bowl-with-handles was meant for, but with the ladle, it sure would make a great farm house punch bowl, wouldn’t it?
Last item: A neat old pounding thing–not a gavel, not a mallet; I think it’s a meat tenderizer. Loving the handle on it. Will list it for about $22.99. All of the above was purchased for $17.

Hi Audrey! Thanks for the visit and the kind encouragement 🙂 I'm hoping the carving is something really exotic and/or interesting…

I know I love it, Michele! Thanks for the visit–I'm going to head over and check out your blog 🙂
Your post today made me want to do some shopping! You've found some terrific things: I love the hand mirrors, mallet (or meat tenderizer!), and soup tureen! The chopping board, too. It must have been a successful shopping day for you! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch
Hi Rosie! It was a great day, for sure–thanks for the sweet encouragement 🙂
Diana, It was wow, wow, wow all the way down the post! The fluted cake tin, the thin scale, THE BLUE ENAMELWARE – yes, screaming!
Ha! Glad you enjoyed it all, Donna 🙂
Love the FREE mirrors – I have a collection. Saw in a magazine where they put an ole photo on the mirror side and it was really cute!
That is such a great idea Marsha–thanks for passing it on–
Such great finds! They look so pretty, the way you've photographed them! Thanks for visitng my blog. We go to the Adirondacks every year. Love it up there! Have a great day!
Thanks for the encouragement, Roselle 🙂
Great finds again! Love that bright blue "punch" bowl and ladle especially. The hydrangeas look beautiful in your new bowl.
Thanks, Deborah!
You always find such great stuff. Loving the blue enamelware. Thanks for sharing @ TTF!
Thank YOU Melissa for hosting the TTF party 🙂
I always oooh, and aaaahhh at your finds – awesome! I will be featuring your post in this week's Home and Garden Thursday,
Kathy
Thanks so much Kathy!! I sure appreciate it 🙂
I think I'd do a little research before I used that as a punch bowl. With two handles it just might be an old "pee pot" and, well…might not want to drink from it. I look forward to finding out what it is.
