This Week’s Vintage Finds: #18

I hit a couple of good estate sales this week-end, including one I almost didn’t make it to. It was way out in the boondocks in a town called, Wynantskill (Dutch for Wynant’s river), and up several steep, icy hills. I finally made it and spent just $1! You never know ’til you get there whether it’s going to be worth it or not. Here are some of this week’s vintage finds:
Parcheesi board, letter cards, calipers, wooden stool

I just love this old wooden stool. I haven’t quite figured out how I want to sell small furniture like this. It’s kind of piling up. It seems like to much hassle and too costly to sell on Etsy. I’m thinking about trying Craigslist. Any thoughts or ideas?

vintage letter cardsI’m always on the lookout for interesting game boards and game board pieces. Sometimes selling the board and other game pieces separately seems to work better than selling them together! Some scrapbooker will need the letter cards at the bottom. Isn’t the bell sweet? I can’t wait to clean up the Berma Shave jar. You can’t see but Berma Shave is embossed on the front. And the metal calipers on the right are so cool!

bottles, vintage bottles

These small bottles were manufactured in the 70s, based on antique bottles.
I think it was all about the bi-centennial.
floral watercolor original art

I have a soft spot for any and all art! I love this floral watercolor, don’t you?!
(so sorry for the glare)
ornaments, christmas

If you had told me even a year ago that I’d be buying anything from the 1970’s, I’d have laughed in your face. Suddenly, I find myself strangely attracted to some of the stuff–not all of it, but some of it! These Christmas ornaments by Kurt S. Adler (a well-know 70’s ornament maker) have corn husk faces and are wearing the quaintest Victorian outfits. I think someone shopping on Etsy is going to need these for next year’s Christmas tree.

The best part: all of the above was purchased for under $20!

  1. I love those ornaments! Such cute outfits they are wearing!! We had something similar when I was a kid! And that painting is fantastic as well as those bottles! I would say you totally scored friend! Wonderful day to you! Nicole xoxo

    1. Ha! You're not going to believe this, but I was in a shop for ten years and did really well. I pulled out for two years (we moved to England), then went back in the same shop (under new management) and did so poorly, I pulled out. That was just about two years ago and had more to do with the economy here in upstate NY than the new management, who are just lovely people. My Etsy store is my current "alternative." It's been going quite well (I've only been "open" since Oct. 15th), but I've not got the hang of selling these larger items. I do have some friends recommending I open in a different shop that seems to be doing well…we'll see 🙂 In any event, my space never looked as great as yours and your sister's!

  2. Well you found some great finds yourself! Love your bottles! I don't have any ideas on the stools. But around here I find several "vintage" garage sales! thanks for stopping by and returning the neighborly visit.

  3. You scored! I love all of your treasures! And the prices you paid! I never seem to be up early enough for the estate sales. I have only managed to make it to one and purchased an old wooden chest for my stepdad.

The ornaments are so cute! : )

  4. I'm swooning over all the colored bottles! Even though the ornaments aren't that old, you have to collect what speaks to you, and those are adorable. Thank you for sharing this at my History & Home link party, take care. Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com
