This Week’s Vintage Finds #42

Hi friends! I am on vacation at the moment in the lovely state of Pennsylvania, just outside of Pittsburgh, visiting my husband’s wonderful family. I planned ahead and have some vintage finds to share with you, but I probably won’t elaborate too much. I’ve made a few buys so far on my trip, but I’ll be sharing those with you next week.

My cool 60s buys (flashlight might be older–40s maybe?): a slide viewer, nifty safety glasses, and an aluminium flashlight. I’m completely taken with the glasses. My father had these exact frames when I was small, so they are very nostalgic for me. I’ll price them each in the $8-15.

I try not to buy too much glass since it’s hard to ship and the market for it is quite sluggish, but many people collect pink glass and this piece has lovely etching (and the price was right!), so I bought it. I expect to price this in the $25 range.

I really liked this box when I saw it, even before I knew it was a backgammon set.

As you can see, the inside is a little rough, but the game pieces are awesome, such a great weight and smooth surface. I’ll likely price this at about $25 (would be worth more, maybe $35-40, if the inside were in better shape).

This is a leftover shot from last week: amber fan vase, tiny pair of leather moccasins, and a large Chianti bottle. I can’t decide whether to take the label off the bottle or not because I love the shape of the bottle, but I love the label, too. What would you do?

Loving this large, enamel coffee pot. Can’t you just picture it over a lumberjack fire, boiling coffee for the tired lumberjacks after a long day? It’s worth about $30.

Two more, nice old levels. This is the “Year of the Levels.” They’ll look terrific once they’re cleaned up and rubbed down with some wax. These will sell for about $20 each.

I thought this piece was so unique–definitely handmade, for carrying tools, I’m guessing. The backside looks the same as the front. I’m planning to paint it, but I’m not sure what I’ll use it for. Wouldn’t flowers look great in each of the compartments?

I got very excited when I saw this, as I walked from the bottom of a driveway up to the garage sale. I think this easel (the flat part on top folds down) would make a terrific lamp base. Right?
That’s all for today!

  1. Fun treasures! I think my favorite is the tool carrier, it would be so cute with some plants and a paint job. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party.

  2. We have a backgammon game that was Dad's! Love the pitcher – awesome finds! I do appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,

  3. In the area where my mom lives, they were having a thing where they put things they didn't want on the curbside for anyone to pick up. I got lucky in that there was a small metal flashlight similar to yours. It measures a little over 6 inches, and there are no dents or rust. The words on the tiny plaque read "Sears Best". It even had working batteries! What a treat! Luckily, it was small, because I certainly couldn't bring very much back with me on the plane!
