This Week’s Vintage Finds #31
People love to decorate with colorful garden tools; I found these at one of the sales with my sweet husband. They seem to retail for about $8-10 each, though I may group them together as an “instant collection.”
I think of these as my “colonial” buys–the candle box in the back has a wonderful worn, painted surface, the punched tin lantern is a reproduction, but it has a nice look, and the cast iron eagle looks just like the one my father hung over our garage doors in the 70s.
If you saw my Decorating With Bottle Brush Trees post last week then you’ll know why I tucked these two trees in the candle box 🙂 I think a whole row of them would look great; I may need to do that at Christmas time this year. I’ll price the eagle at about $15 (SOLD) and the candle box at about $35.
I found this beautiful piece of Fostoria elegant etched glass hiding in a box with some pots and pans. After researching it at Catlady Kate’s eBay article, I discovered the pattern is called “Chintz.” Fostoria produced it from 1940-1973. The design includes roses with thorned stems and lots of fern-like, pointed leaves. You may remember that I found a piece of Fostoria in the “Romance” pattern a while back (Vintage Finds #22). I will price it at about $25-35.
This beautiful Cambridge glass bon bon in the “Wildflower” pattern was made in the 1940s and 50s. It’s comprised of large Dogwood and Poinsettia-type flowers. Check out this useful Cambridge Glass Identification Guide for more info. It’s worth approximately $20-30.
Some of my fun vintage finds include this awesome flower-shaped flower frog in green–love it–and the pretty pitcher covered with red posies. Leaning against the pitcher is a pair of calipers with red wooden handles. Next to it–another candy jar(!). And finally a Kodak Instamatic camera–my first buy of this kind. Do people buy these to decorate with or to use? I have no idea. Maybe someone can help me. They seem to be selling on Etsy for about $10. I’ll list the frog for $10, the pitcher for $15-20, and the calipers for $10.
Who hasn’t heard of Fanny Farmer?! This edition dates from 1946 and goes for about $10. I’ve always wanted a large biscotti jar; now that I have it, I’m not sure where it’s going to go–ha! In this photo, it’s filled with some vintage Christmas ornaments. In front is a not-too-old enamelware ladle that seems to have so many possibilities. It will be available for $15.00 (SOLD).
My sweet husband discovered this large picnic basket and decided he had to have it(!). I love its nice, warm surface and look forward to using it someday soon.
It’s filled with just about everything you need for a picnic, except for the food! For $5, I think he did pretty good, don’t you?
Lastly, I bought this neat corner cupboard for just $10 (SOLD for $40.00). It appears to be part original, old pine mixed with some newer pine and birds eye maple (front panel). The back boards have also been replaced with new, unfinished pine. It’s kind of interesting and could certainly be painted if the mix of new and old offended its future owner(!).
That’s all for now–happy hunting!

🙂 You make me smile, Nicole. Thanks for being a faithful blogging friend! I hope you and your "beans" have a wonderful rest of the week. Diana
Hi Diana. You found some real treasures. I am smitten with the flower frog and would love to buy it. Are you putting it on Etsy? I love the color and have never seen one like it. Green is my favorite color and it would look so cute with my other green flower frogs. So let me know. Have a great week.
Hugs, Dianne
Thanks Dianne! I'll chat with you via email about the frog 🙂
Wow – truly wonderful finds! I'm reading through everyone's weekend finds – and it's making me wish I had done SOME type of junkin this past weekend. I'm especially swooning over the putz house village. I sell SO MANY of these, it's crazy. I think you could list them individually and then the deer as a lot.
Good advice Melissa. Because I sell on Etsy, I tend to group things to cut down on all the boxing up shipping of small stuff. Do you still think I'd do better selling them individually?
I tend to sell everything individually in my Christmas etsy shop (melissasretroxmas), except boxes of ornaments and things that seem are supposed to go together. I do better selling my houses individually, but it's up to you.
Thanks for linking up to TTF 🙂
HI Diana! You found some sweet little things. A coupe of years ago I decided to make some little glitter houses and I did! Zillions of them! 🙂 Looking forward to moving up your way and going thrifting too! 😉
Be a sweetie,
Shelia 😉
Hi Sheila! I've always wanted to make some myself, but have never gotten around to it :/
Blessings,
Diana
Fun finds! I love the pitcher with the red flowers, and I think the camera would be a real fun decor accessory.
Hi Heather! I agree, I'm going to list it on Etsy and see if others feel the same way 🙂
Great finds! My favorite is the adorable picnic basket and that glass bon bon dish.
Thanks Deborah!
Impressive finds! I love, love, love the little buildings, remembering them well from my childhood. What fun! You are quite the treasure-hunter!
Hi Mary Ann! I know, they're so sweet. I love finding things that remind my of happy, simpler days 🙂
Great goodies you were lucky to find these treasures. The little Putz village is my favorite.
Great finds – I have one of those vintage garden tools that look like a hand – love them! I do appreicate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
Kathy
