Last week I spent Friday with my Constant Companion, Nancy, engaging in our very favorite activity, shopping of course! And our very favorite kind of shopping, sales and thrift shops! We hit one good estate sale, the City Mission, and a church thrift shop. Lots of fun and lots of vintage finds to report. (See the end of this post of a picture of Nancy and I at the Rhinebeck Country Living Fair last June. And yep, we’re going again this year!!! As many days as we can squeeze in–hooray!)
Some of my fun finds. I love the brass tiered server on the far right. That one may be a keeper.
I’m still obsessed with matching bases and tops to make pedestal stands.
I found this sweet dish and Nancy found me a pair of brass candlesticks.
Good match up, huh? Now I’ve just gotta get out the glue.
Aren’t these salt and pepper shakers cool? The embossing reads, “Eastern Estate Tea Co,” and I did a bit of research and learned that this company was in business in the early 1900s. The glass looks old–it’s got the embossing, some mold lines, and some seeds in the glass. I think I got a real good find here.
A shot of the rolling pin handle–I just love it. So graceful and smooth.
You might know by now that I have a thing for all things old and wooden.
A closer shot of the train print. Its definitely a hand-painted print,
but I’m going to have to take it out of the frame to determine its true age.
I just thought this wire meshy thing was cool.
Don’t know what it’s for, don’t know what I’m going to do with it…
This is 70s (obviously) wood carving of mushrooms.
I’m going to wax it up and I’ll show you the results later.
Anything made of twigs and burlap, I’m gonna pick up. Yep.
I am so in love with this painting! Doesn’t it shout “Grandma Moses?!!”
It’s a very naive, primitive-ish watercolor with a nice old frame. The matte is just a piece of paper, so I decided to take it all apart and I discovered a signature and date: M. Darby, 1957!
Here’s a closer look at the sleigh.
And the church. Gonna be hard to sell this one. Might need to keep it.
What would you do?
Sell or keep?
Me and Nancy (left) at the fair. Any style I have, I owe to her!
Anyone else planning on attending the Rhinebeck Country Living Fair in June?
Isn't it so much more fun when you have a sisterhood (figuratively or literally) in junkin'? Yaya club of the best kind! Love the photo from the CL Fair – wanted to go in Columbus last September, even won tickets, but was way too busy planning my daughter's October wedding. Maybe this year….
Yes, it is more fun! The fair was really wonderful–great sellers, great atmosphere. I can understand not going because of your daughter's wedding; that would be pretty all-consuming. How'd you win tickets?
Oh, I'd keep that painting, especially since it's signed. Really cool. I loved the old salt and pepper shakers, too — what wonderful finds. I don't do enough "junking." Time for me to do more.

You really found some treasures. Love the jars and that train print! I would have to keep the last painting, just so sweet. Hugs, LInda
I'm leaning that way…
I'd love to go shopping with you someday! Great finds ๐
That would be fun! You must have some good sales down your way?
