This Week’s Vintage Finds #147
Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great long weekend. My sweet husband does not get Columbus Day off, so in some respects, it was a regular weekend for us. On Saturday, we hit a couple of estate sales, just to get out of the house for a few hours, so I have some vintage finds to show you, along with others from previous shopping trips. I’m limited in my offerings because I broke my laptop screen, and most of my photos are loaded on it. [Never close up your laptop if there’s a pen sitting on the keyboard. Just saying.]
A boxful of metal numbers and letters, approx. 2″ high, (cost: $1.00, value: 3 or 4 for $1.00).
I’ve collected a small stash of various gauges and thermometers, to sell or display someday (cost: 50¢, value: $2-4.00).
Interesting tools in need of some cleaning and oiling (cost: 25¢ each, value: $3-5.00). They may be part of a future project…
I’ve mentioned before how well vintage garden tools like these sell. I save them up for springtime (cost: 50¢ each, value: $8-10.00). The pin-type flower frog is interesting in that it’s two separate pieces that interlock on the ends or sides (cost: $1.50 each, value: $10.00 each).
You can read more about flower frogs in this post.

A very pretty green celluloid (vintage plastic) hand mirror (cost: $2.00, value: $15-18.00).
An antique ironstone pitcher and cup (cost: $3.00 for the set, value: $18-20.00).
Cook & Hancock were a Trenton, NJ pottery in business from about 1897, which is about when I’d date this set to.

I picked up this bread plate at the fabulous church sale I attended a while back. It piqued my interest because I had never seen this type of decoration before, nor heard of “Persian Ware.” The dainty decoration is all hand-painted (cost: 50¢, value: $8-10.00).
German potteries produced “Persian Ware” for the American-German export market. Though most German immigrants assimilated into American culture rapidly (during the period between 1860 and WWI), they enjoyed using the brightly-colored pottery that reminded them of their homeland.
Cupcake picks like these clowns with spun cotton heads are quite collectible (cost: 25¢, value: $1.00 each).
These beads came with a large Christmas swag I picked up for free; they remind me of the unfinished wooden beads that are popular right now (cost: free, value: $5-8.00). (SOLD)
I can’t pass up good [or interesting] art, especially at this price (cost: $1.00, value: $25-30.00 after removing or painting the frame).
Final Fabulous Find: I saw a photograph of this table-top greenhouse on a Craigslist ad for an estate sale, and I could not believe it was still available when I arrived at the sale late in the day. Once I examined it more closely, however, I began to understand why it hadn’t sold. For one thing, it’s made of Plexiglas, rather than glass, and for another, the hinges holding the top in place are not currently doing their job. But I still fell in love with it. The price tag read $10.00; I offered $5.00 and in my van it went. I’m not sure where it will make its forever home, but right now it’s in my living room, giving me great joy.
Thanks so much for stopping by today to take a look at my vintage loot!

What a week of great finds, Diana! Good job on the bargaining for the terrarium – can’t lose! But i’m not sure of the cupcake picks right now, given all the bizarre goings-on with clowns on the prowl. It may or may not boost the sale, let us know!
Great finds! My favorite are the little spun head clowns. Sorry to hear about your laptop!
You always find the good stuff…lol. The ironstone is awesome. How fun to find something in that divine garnet color. I really see that with some gorgeous fall leaves in it. Nice haul, Sandi
