This Week’s Vintage Finds #106
Hi everyone! Since this past Friday and Saturday were part of a holiday weekend, I spent most of it at home with family. But my sweet daughter and I did sneak away Saturday morning to a bimonthly flea market in Cohoes (NY)–not too far away. Boy was she glad we did. She picked up an early, plastic camera for just $2.00, and we stumbled upon something we’ve been searching for for a while: a record player. The seller (my new friend Donna who I introduced you to a couple of weeks ago) gave us a deal and threw in as many albums and 45s as she wanted. Guess what we’ve been doing a lot of around here lately?!! Yep, listening to some great oldies–BJ Thomas, Pink Floyd, Simon & Garfunkle, Ringo Starr, and many more. I do not miss the scratchy, tinny sound, but she loves it. [P.S. Would you show Donna some blog-land kindness and pop over and give her some Facebook likes? You guys are awesome.] Let’s take a look at some of my recent vintage finds.
This 16th century wood-block print is just one of several dozen prints found in one of my flea market finds.
The large, coffee table book, Herbal, was written by well-known naturalist, Joseph Wood Krutch and was published in 1965 (cost: $1.00, value:$35-40.00).
I’ve fallen in love with the illustrations, so I think I’ll be hanging onto the book for now.

Just in time for Christmas–a beautiful red, plaid cover. The Country Cook Book has no date of publication (cost: 50¢, value: $10.00).
It’s filled with all sorts of interesting information and recipes.

Books about birds tend to sell quite well (cost: 50¢, value: $8-10.00).

Especially those by Audubon with beautiful, full-color illustrations.

Another hardcover bird book: The Nature Library: Birds (cost: 50¢, value: $8-10.00).

Again, with some beautiful illustrations.

This mid-century reader is not in terrific shape, but would be great to use for crafting (cost: 50¢, value: $2-3.00).

It has the sort of illustrations that many of us remember from our childhood.
Switching gears, here we have a business sign I picked up at the flea market, and which I expect to sell fairly quickly (cost: $7.00, value: $35-45.00).

This copper kettle, made in Portugal, is a recent find that I’ve not included in any weekly round-ups yet (cost: $2.00, value: $18-25.00).

These brass letter stencils are another recent find. Unfortunately, it’s just a partial set. I think I’m going to keep the ampersand and then sell the letters individually (cost: $2.00 for the set, value: $2.00 each).
These three square head nails, approximately 4″ long, came from a recent box o’crud (cost: $0, value: $4-5.00 for all three).

One of the booths at the craft fair I’m currently part of has multiple bags of sewing notions. I broke down and bought one of the bags filled with vintage seam binding (cost: $5.00 for the bag, value: $5.00/100 yd roll).
I love the muted colors and the fine texture. I think they look nice with vintage-y crafts.
Here are a few of the smaller, partial rolls–obviously well-used, but still beautiful.
My New Blog Shop
Some of the items you see here today will be available in my new blog shop, which I will be opening shortly. Well, it’s technically already open (just click on “Vintage Shop” in the navigation bar up top), but I’m hoping to have a Grand Opening with special discounts offered, soon. [BTW, many thanks to Nancy from Antioch, CA for making my shop’s very first sale! She’ll be receiving a little something extra in her package.]
Thanks so much for stopping by–

Lots of good stuff – especially the Audubon book. I bet your daughter is thrilled to bits with the record player and albums. I could KICK myself for ever getting rid of the hundreds of albums I had from the 60’s and 70’s. All that great album art. Grrrr…….
The illustrations in that first book would make an excellent adult coloring book. You should scan them 🙂
Ha, the teapot is 1968…I received that exact one as a wedding present…and used it for years for potpourri when it started to get grungy inside. I love the herbal book. Those are such antique looking prints. And who can not turn down a bird book, of any date? Great finds…I just found a small handful of square nails…while unpacking one of my mom’s junk drawers!? They look just like yours. Thanks for sharing, Sandi (We would never be able to shop together, for all the scuffling on the floor over finding the same things!…LOL)
Such great finds!
You certainly got some fabulous finds. The books are wonderful.
Lots of great stuff Diana! Love the bird book, and the nails and brass stencils are fabulous!
Nice find on the books, that one with the illustrations would sure be a keeper for me. Do you know why the sign top has the numbers and letters like that? Anyway, makes it unique. Like all the pretty colors of the seam binding. Best ~ Mickie.
