This Week’s Vintage Finds #1

Hi everyone! Thanks for popping in to take a look at my very first “Vintage Finds” post. I’m so excited to share my love of vintage and antiques with you. In doing so, I hope to pass on information that may help you with your vintage buying, and if you’re a dealer with your selling, too. After seeing my sweet daughter on the bus this morning, I poured myself a cup of coffee, ran to the van, and then hit about seven garage sales before I had to pick up my son and drive him to school. I found some great stuff. See for yourself–


First up is a Smith & Corona typewriter–isn’t it the coolest? The owners were asking $5, I offered $4, and here it is sitting on my kitchen counter. Not sure what I’ll end up doing with it. The keys, of course, would be awesome for crafting or jewelry making. It’s in such great condition (along with its case) that I kinda hate to destroy it. I’ll hang onto it for a while and ponder it.  This website: The Classic Typewriter Page, has some great info about typewriters. [UPDATE: My daughter found the typewriter and LOVES it–she won’t let me sell, even though I know now that it’s worth a lot of money ($100ish). She uses it all the time to write notes to her friends; she even typed her homework on it once(!).]

In my world, it’s hard to pass up any sort of chicken or rooster. This cutie’s only about two inches long and she set me back just 25¢ cents (value: $8-10.00).

I need these little ramekins, yes I surely do. And I’ll be getting rid of miscellaneous other, unmatched ramekins so I’m not actually adding to my collection, I’m merely upgrading (cost: 25¢ each).

This amazing vintage bottle brush Christmas tree cost just 50 cents. It’s marked Japan on its wooden base. It’s missing a couple of its pink bulbs, but otherwise it’s in great condition (value: $40-50.00). [UPDATE: Sold for $42.00 via Etsy 2015.]

Loved the label on this can of “Sparkling Tinsel,” otherwise known as “glitter.” Cost just fifty cents. [UPDATE: It sold for $5.99 on Etsy in 2013.]

I love the stylized heart cookie cutter. It’s pretty rusty, but I don’t know how old it really is. It’s resting on three little oval hotel platters marked “Buffalo China,” and each of them cost just fifty cents.
