This Week’s Vintage Finds #7

Marilyn by Norman Mailer

I fear that I have reached the end of the 2013 garage sale season, but I surely went out with a bang!  Last week-end was quite nippy up here in the Northeast, but I pressed on. This gorgeous coffee table book about Marilyn Monroe by her one-time husband, Norman Mailer the playwright, set me back just $1. And it’s in fabulous condition.

I have a thing for this cabbage-y look and with the cute little bunny resting on top, I couldn’t resist. It’ll either make a nice Easter side-dish container or it’ll end up for sale at some point.

I’ve started to make some jewelry and only have needle-nose pliers to work with, so when I saw these for 50ยข I thought I should snap them up.

I’ve already got plans for this interesting piece, which I’m sure was intended as a candle-holder. After I clean up the rust and rub some mineral oil on it, it’ll look just dandy. Check here for my tutorial on cleaning rusty metal. Check here for my clean up job and embellishments.

This sweet little pink glass creamer has poinsettias embossed on the sides, hence its name: Floral Poinsettia. Produced by the Jeannette Glass Company (my husband is from Jeannette, PA where the company manufactured the glass), this depression glass pattern was made from 1931-35. You can now find this creamer for sale in my Etsy store.

This set of 18 over-sized (about 4″ long) paper clips are already for sale on Etsy. I think they are very cool, steam punky items that would be great for an altered art project. UPDATE: These sold for $4.99.

I love this wicker basket–you can’t see it but it has a handle on the top of the back for hanging and it’s only about 3″ deep, so it’s perfect for hanging on a door. This one is also already listed on Etsy.

This is one of a set of ten apothecary jars that I bought from a lovely couple who plan to move to California soon. She gave me a great deal on all ten of them, and I’ve already listed this one on Etsy. Five have the paper label like this one, the other five are smaller and have no label. All of them have ground stoppers. They are so Country Living! So Anthropologie!
UPDATE: I sold four of the unlabeled jars (5 1/4″ high) for $19.99.

At the same sale I also purchased a small shelving unit for $5 (can always use that, right?!), two X-Box games–one for my son, one for my daughter, each for $5, and a large, office laminator with a box of the plastic sheaths to go with it, also for $5.

Yes, it was a very satisfying day.

Bye for now,
Diana
