Some Vintage Touches on the Deck
Hi everyone! I hope you’re enjoying the weekend wherever you are. I want to thank you all again for praying for my family and me–words cannot express how much your thoughts and kind sentiments are appreciated. You are sweet, sweet friends, and I’m very blessed to have you in my life. With that said, we are still walking through some tough territory, and so today’s post is a quickie. In past years I’ve shared some of my gardens with you at various times inย the spring and summer, but this year, for whatever reason, that didn’t happen. So today I’m sharing an area on my deck that I decorated with vintage finds, along withย flowers and other plants, as well.
It’s kind of a last look at summer, made possible by the fact that we’ve had no frost in our part of Upstate New York,ย yet–yippee! My new favorite flower for planters and pots is the begonia.
I find them to be a very cheerful flower, although I guess you could say anything that
I don’t killย stays alive, is pretty darn “cheerful.”
I planted some rosemary in one of my faux aged pots, and I haven’t killed it yet either–hooray for me.

I’ve cut myself off at just three galvanized watering cans, no more. And while each cost just one dollar, enough is enough. Anything beyond three, and I have to sell it. I’m partial to this one embossed with “DOVER”–the brand name perhaps?
On the left is some asparagus grass I picked up at Lowes’ clearance rack. I heard about their clearance plantsย from so many bloggers, I finally ran over and picked up a few things. Most cost just a dollar.
I planted a mix of pinks in my flower boxes this year: mini petunias, geraniums, and begonias. I have by far been the happiest with the begonias, but they’ve made a nice mix for much of the summer and early fall.
Remember this little fella? I picked him up at a flea market near Pittsburgh for $5.00.
Here’s the whole “display.” I bought the awesome weathered “bench” at a garage sale a couple of years ago, and the vintage cooler receivedย a recent 4th of July upcycleย that you may remember. It’s my happy place. Where’s yours?
Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Bye for now,
Always adding new merchandise!
Our vintage link party is open until tomorrow (Monday)ย at 8 am–
It looks beautiful Diana! I haven’t tried begonias yet… I think I’ll give them a shot next year. I bought a bunch of ornamental grasses from Lowe’s clearance section (also only $1) and they have been flourishing! I’m impressed with their selection in clearance, most places only have 1 rack!
Tania
You should definitely try them, Tania–they’re long lasting and beautiful, too.
Very pretty, Diana! I love all of your galvanized goodies!
Thanks Linda!
I agree, begonias are great summer flowers. My mom always planted red ones:) I love, love, love the rosemary, it looks so nice in that pot! I like to keep some on the kitchen counter, it’s way cheaper than those topiaries (which I end up killing anyway!) xoKathleen Charm Bracelet Diva {At Home}
I hope I can keep it on my kitchen counter–I’m not good at keeping any plants alive inside–lol. I bought a beautiful rosemary topiary at the Country Living Fair a couple of weeks ago and it only took me about two weeks to kill it :/
Love this Diana. Everything looks lovely and I agree with Kathleen about the rosemary. I spent my morning cutting over 200 sprigs for a wedding ๐ Sharing on my Secret Garden FB page!
You definitely have a green thumb, Cecilia. Thanks so much for the share and good luck with your [beautiful] wedding favors!
It looks very nice. A good place to relax and enjoy. I love the little bear.
Thanks Debra ๐
Very pretty and welcoming.

Looks to me like your plants are flourishing! Love those begonias & petunias together, and nice that they haven’t dried up or frozen yet. Everything is drying up here where I live. I love your vignette with the watering cans. Especially love the bear down there.
Continuing to pray for you & your family Diana.
Diana, love your deck vignette. The bench is perfect! I planted begonias and loved them as well. It all looks just wonderful! We got a slight frost and a lot of my planters got nipped. I cut the black off and will hang on to them for a while longer. At least till the biggie comes. ๐ Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
