What Sold, What Didn’t in 2016

Happy New Year, friends!! I hope you had a great weekend, welcoming in the new year. Ours was quiet–nice after all the holiday hoopla. Recently, I posted about some of the merchandise I sold at the Shaker Christmas Craft Fair. Today I thought in lieu of a more traditional “Year’s Favorite Posts,” I thought I might revisit the DIYs and crafts of 2016 and answer the question, “What Sold, What Didn’t?” Keep in mind that I sell in three different venues: my Vintage Blog Shop (blog), my booth at the Gristmill Antique Center (booth), and the six-week, Shaker Christmas craft fair (craft fair). Of course some of the projects I get involved in end up as part of my home decor; not every single project gets kicked out of the house(!).

  1. I love this post. Thank you. I always wonder what items sell for in your area of the country. I live in the small town of Chester, Ca. in Northern, Ca. and although we don’t have a official antique store we do have three thrift stores. Prices can be all over the place and it’s great having some point of reference. Love your blog and wish you a wonderful New Year!

    1. Thanks so much for leaving such a sweet comment, Suzanne! Pricing is tricky but I just try to reflect my own personal experience and make sure readers realize I’m not a guru. I’m just a simple dealer trying to keep it real and offer a little bit of info whenever I can. SO glad you enjoy my blog 🙂 Happy New Year to you and yours, too!

  2. Love this! You’re so funny and so much like me….I’d be keeping many of those things you chose also!

    1. Yes! It’s almost painfully difficult. I have a few items that I know will sell, but not much more than that. The rest often feels like a crap shoot!

  3. Love all your keepers but would have found it difficult not to keep it all. Thus my problem with being a vendor. As I’ve said before I am a much better shopper than vendor.

  4. You did quite well. When I used to do craft fairs years ago I would sell needlepoint and needlework items as well as painted items and often came home with very little! A good feeling.

  5. Very interesting. Thanks for posting the solds and not-solds! I guess rustic signs went pretty well and the flags, too. But why didn’t anyone buy that beautiful vintage mirror? I’d buy that. And I was sure the Shaker-style round box had sold before I read the caption. It’s just a mystery what goes and what doesn’t. It was fun to see. Hope you do another post like this sometime.

    1. Your welcome, Naomi–I like to keep things real. I’m not too comfortable with presenting everything as honky dory all the time 🙂 It is an absolute mystery to me what will sell and what won’t! The large gold mirror I bought and painted for myself. The smaller round mirror never made it to the shop. I helped a friend decorate our church hall for a wedding not too long ago and we were able to use it. She mentioned several times how much she liked it, so when the event was over, I gave it to her as a gift. And btw, I promise to do more posts like this one 🙂

  6. Great idea for a post! Love to see what you’re creating and what’s selling/not selling. Your pics are beautiful; what a photography gift you have! I personally want to see the whole piece of white furniture with the cool hinges that your “gather” plate is sitting on…just sayin’.

    1. Thanks so much for the encouragement, Lora!! That piece doesn’t often show up in my photos because it has a glass front and I am often reflected in it–lol. Also, it’s right next to our sliding glass door and the lighting just doesn’t work out very well. It was a wedding gift from a dear friend, selected from the antique shop that I used to be in years ago.

  7. Great post idea! It’s always so interesting to see what sells and what doesn’t. Sometimes it’s such a guessing game to know what buyers are looking for.

  8. Fun to see what sold Diana! You have a way of upcycling things wonderfully! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  9. Diana, Your review of items sold was very enjoyable. I love the wreath on white mirror. Thanks for sharing and I wish you a wonderful happy new year in 2017.

  10. This was a great post, Diana. It’s always interesting and on a personal level, somewhat puzzling, what sells and what doesn’t!

  11. I just love those stenciled platters. And you have some really beautiful furniture pieces, too! It’s always fun to see the process and progress of another “maker” 🙂

  12. Great stuff! I would have kept all those treasures you kept also! Love your vignettes as well! My favorite thing is the tin cake caddy set. If you have a chance, hop on over to my blog and enter my Give-Away! It’s for a vintage wooden bowl and butter paddle! Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Lesa–thanks so much for the visit! I’d love to hop over and visit your blog. For whatever reason, your blog link isn’t showing up next to your image in my comment area. What’s is the name of your blog? Happy New Year to you, too!

  13. I am surprised at some of the things that didn’t sell but I understand. They are waiting for the perfect person to stop by. All the projects are good ones.
