Vintage Finds #136
Hi everyone! I’m posting today’s finds from Pittsburgh. We drove over from Albany (NY) on Saturday because of an unexpected death in my husband’s family. He is part of a large, loving family who are blessing each other with great comfort and support of all kinds. However, we would be grateful for any prayers you might send our way. My sweet family and dear friends back in Albany have been caring for my children (and Xander the dog). We are truly blessed. Because I typically have a few blog posts waiting in the wings, I’m able to have a vintage finds post today. Hope you enjoy it.
I spotted this vintage candy box at a garage sale not too long ago. Its vibrant colors attracted me and its price, $1.00, won me over completely. I would date it to about the 1920’s.

At one time, it was filled with [what sound like] tasty treats.

And the company, while located in Massachusetts, had “Albany” in its name. But I hit a brick wall when trying to uncover more information about the company.
Upon removing the lid, I discovered that the box was filled with paper goods. I thought you might enjoy seeing the contents, starting with this pretty Easter post card.

It also contained a couple of letters with some lovely handwriting that could be used for crafts (the stamps, too).
The remainder are one-sided cards like these two, one of which celebrates Easter and the other sends ” glad you’re better” wishes. The designs are lovely.
As are the designs for these two Get Well cards. I plan to scan them and see if I can remove the salutations. Then they could be used for all sorts of crafty projects or greeting cards. I especially like the card up top with the blue cottage.
These last three are just adorable, aren’t they? The one with the darling birds is my favorite.
Thanks so much for stopping by–

Wow! What a find!!! Love it and for only a $1
Sorry to hear of the death in your husband’s family. You’re in my thoughts.
I love your finds! I once found a box of vintage cards and I’ve used a couple but I have a hard time using them! Once you write in them they are not unused anymore, but they have the greatest sayings! You found some really good ones 🙂 ~ Rheta
Sorry for your loss of a family member. Hugs and prayers for your hubby and his family. Love all your finds.

Lovely finds. I have a soft spot for paper ephemera too.
You got quite a bit for your $1.! Interesting how all the cards inside were get well or speedy recovery ones. This person muss have know a lot of ill people! Or was just a very well-prepared for any eventuality person! Unlike me, who has to run out to the store when I need a card for someone!
I am sorry to hear about the death in your husband’s family. I send my sympathy and blessings for peacefulness to all of you.
What fun to open the box and find more treasures. Prayers for your family.
The cards are just too gorgeous! What a great surprise!
So sorry for your loss! Glad you were still able to share some vintage goodies with us. 🙂
Loved the vintage post cards, I had some Christmas ones and used them to send to my very best friends and family. Praying for your family and their loss. God be with you
Albany is a street name in Cambridge. Maybe the candy company was originally located on Albany?
