This Week’s Vintage Finds #73
Hi everyone! It’s that time of the week again. Time to take a look at some of my vintage finds. Because we attended a wedding on Saturday and helped out some before hand, there was precious little time to shop. (I know, there’s a tiny violin playing a sad song for me somewhere.) But I have a few finds that I scrounged from one moving sale and two thrift store stops.
I do enjoy a well-done, vintage-y cross stitch. Sweet little puppy.
This one has a nice color-scheme and contains a popular prayer.
I plan to frame it shortly and price it at about $25.00.
I’m calling this quilt a “lap quilt” because of its size and variety of colors. If it were pinker or bluer, I might call it a baby quilt, but it’s not. It’s a riot of colors. And it’s double sided–patches on both sides, and it has a patchwork ruffle all the way around the edge. As my friend Rita says, I might have to foster this one for a while (cost: $4).
It also has a wonderful weight and will keep a person warm on a cold winter’s night.
The colors and fabrics are endless.
I couldn’t pass up this beautiful botanical, so in the cart it went. Its “Made in England” backstamp adds to its appeal (cost $1).
I purchased this piece for it’s function, but I admire its pink marble base.
I plan to use this vintage letter holder on my desk (cost: $1).
Some miscellaneous items: a Bush campaign star pin, two Desert Storm pin-backs, and a Tommy Hilfiger watch (cost: $1 for all four). I’m not sure what the sterling silver implement on the bottom is for, but it’s neat and cost just $2. It looks to me like something that might have hung on a chatelaine (please forgive all the dust on the plastic tray).
A close up of the political pin. I have a friend who collects all kinds of political memorabilia. When I find well-priced items, I pick them up for him to use as trades or to sell. Every now and then, I find something he doesn’t have, and that makes me happy. (Did I ever mention that I’m not the best housekeeper in the world?)
Final Find: A “Made in Japan” fishing bag. I think it’s pretty cool, but didn’t realize until I got home that it has a stain on the lower right. I’ll have to work on getting that out. But for a dollar, I’m not going to cry too hard or long about it!
That’s it for me today. Not a huge haul,
but if you peeked inside my garage, you’d know,
I DON’T NEED ANYMORE STUFF!

Diane, for just a little time you found a lot of goodies! So many cuties but I think my favorite is the rake head. Hugs, Dianne
I love the rake head too, Diana, but the cross-stitched, h/e prayer sure is cute.
At least you got SOME junkin' in!
Really some fun finds! The rake head is perfect and it was Betsy that shared her fantastic remake with us!! The tiny silver thing looks like a letter opener to me but it is small….so hummmmmm. Love the quilt and the prayer!
Linda
Thanks Linda! And thanks for letting me know who had the great idea. I agree it looks like a letter opener…for very tiny little letters…
Not needing any more stuff is my problem too and I had to LOL at your house keeping comment.
Love the quilt. I have a hand embroidered framed piece with the same prayer on it that my grandma made for me when I was born. It's one of my most treasured possessions.
Diana, that embroidered prayer is too precious for words. Mimi xxx
You did remarkably well with your amazing $1.00 finds! Wow. Love that first red tea towel – its the the bright color I think. Will be interested to see what you do with the rake. So many possibilities….! And don't you just hate it when you get home after finding something you love to find something wrong with it! Oh my. I need to remember to be more careful too to look things over carefully in the light before buying. I hope you can get the stain out 🙂 Enjoyed this post almost as much as a trip to the thrift store myself, lol!
The rake is my favorite followed by the quilt. Who said you could only buy treasures if you NEEDED them!?!
You did good! I love all your precious finds, especially the quilt and that little rake. You know I would have grabbed that in an instant. Thanks for mentioning my rake project and thank you for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party.
That little rake is so sweet, and I love that mixed up quilt. A lot of time and love went into making that I'm sure.
My eyes fell in love with the quilt you found! Such beautiful colors! Thanks again for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop!
Diana, I loved that rake project Betsy did too 🙂 I agree your pretty red and white towel is cheerful–great finds!
The flower tile is by porthmeirion , very popular here in the UK
Diana, that quilt is a real gem! I also love the stitch work. I've pinned a few rake projects. I'll have to hop over and see Betsy's. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Wow….that IS a cheerful towel! I love the rake head and letter holder. I get what you mean about not being able to thrift. It's a sickness I tell ya! LOL But a harmless one! I found you today via Bella Rosa Antique's link party. Have a great day!

Nice haul ! I believe the small sterling thing you got goes in a manicure kit. Just a guess…
