This Week’s Vintage Finds #55

Hi everyone! Saturday my sweet husband and I had plans to attend a historic home tour in Troy (NY), just across the river. (I’ll do a post on that soon.) On our way there, we stopped at a couple of garage sales. We didn’t find a lot, so I’m supplementing this week’s vintage finds with some past finds that I never got the chance to blog about.

I fell in immediate love with this little trophy. I think you will, too.

As I begin to appreciate the Dutch heritage of the Albany area (where I live), I find myself more and more attracted to anything Dutch. Aren’t these post cards just darling?

Just look at all the details: the wash tub, the wooden shoes, the head gear,
the textile patterns. So fascinating.

The kids are cute, but I love the brick (or stone?) wall behind them!

Up top is what  I think is a crumb brush–any other thoughts on the matter? The child’s fork is sterling and should clean up nicely. The school scissors will be added to my ongoing collection. I’m not sure what I plan to do with them yet. The leather case holds a manicure set. I’ll price the fork at about $20.

Made in Sheffield, England, the set contains four pieces. I will list it for about $15.

There’s a pretty good market for vintage office supplies. I recently sold a pencil sharpener from my Etsy shop for $15. SOLD $15.00. I’ll put the stapler at about the same. Neither of these is marked in any way.

This shapely old trophy measures just under 5″ high. The engraving reads: W. Clayton, ELY, 3 lbs 11 ozs., 1956. Sounds like some sort of fishing contest. I’ll be keeping this one for a while at least.

The Doan’s pill tin and Eight O’Clock Coffee bank are not too old, but are nonetheless collectible. The candy tin in the middle is in rough shape but its small size and oval shape appealed to me.

And it came from Woolworth’s, which holds a lot of memories for me. My mother would take me into the “city” to shop at Woolworth’s and we’d eat at the lunch counter. I remember delicious burgers and shakes.

I’ve had good luck in the past selling vintage ribbon and wrapping paper. I’ll save these to grow a larger collection and sell them as a grouping. Individually, they are worth just a couple of dollars.

This one with the white “lace” over the yellow is unusual.

With the current fascination with alarm clocks, I thought this funky smiley face would probably have not trouble finding a home, priced in the $15-20 range.

This dainty brass tray would look beautiful on a dresser, holding vanity jars or a collection of cocktail rings, perhaps. I plan to price it at approximately $25. I rescued the tiara and small jewelry box from a “free” bin. I’ve not decided what to do with them yet.

You can see the detail on the vanity tray.

I have to do a bit of research on these figural light bulbs. I’ve never sold any before, so I don’t know much about them or their value.

This Week's Vintage Finds #55

I do know that Santa collectors in general are a ferocious bunch, often gobbling up every Santa they come across.

This Week's Vintage Finds #55

I couldn’t pass up these steam punk-y, “industrial” goodies–a bunch of mini light bulbs and a box of fuses. Love the red and turquoise on the fuses themselves. Lots of artsy possibilities with these supplies. Each set will be listed for about $10-12. LISTED HERE for $9.99.

This Week's Vintage Finds #55

I own a set of KAN-U-GO cards that I’ve used for scrapbooking and other crafts, so I’m going to put this set in my Etsy shop for about $12. LISTED HERE for $12.99.

This Week's Vintage Finds #55

A close up of the roulette wheel. It has a wonderful spinning action. I’ll list it for $25.

This Week's Vintage Finds #55

These are the cards that come in the KAN-U-GO crossword game.

This Week's Vintage Finds #55

A 1960’s era Snoopy book with dust jacket. I’m storing up a few Peanuts items
to sell as a collection. I’ll add this to that grouping.

This Week's Vintage Finds #55

Last find–copper plant markers–not too off-trend, with the continued popularity of copper. I think these are a cool find. I will list the ten of them closer to spring for about $20.

That’s it for me.
What have you found lately?

Bye for now,

  1. Where to start? So many great things…..I love the trophy (my daughter's surname is ELY!, so when you're through fostering, may I have 1stdibs?), and the copper plant markers – terrific. The brush – yes, either crumb or maybe clothes/hat. We even have a few that look similar that are wallpaper smoothing brushes. The stapler, sharpener – love. They're all cool, Diana!

  2. Lots of great stuff but the Snoopy book was my favorite.

I can't wait to see what you do with al the vintage scissors.

I always thought it was such treat to go to Woolworths and get a hamburger and a milk shake. Great score on that tin.

  3. That trophy is what I dream of finding every time I go out thrifting! I also love that vanity tray and the santa lights. You did good!:)

  4. The trophy is great…and the office supplies and the brass tray… 😉 The post cards are darling too. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Bliss Tuesdays. Jo

  5. Love, love that trophy! Anything that has to do with Woolworths is a great walk down memory lane. I have (had) a fabulous crate marked Woolworths. My youngest son loved it and borrowed it for a while. We'll see if I ever get it back. lol! Those prints are just precious! Wanted to tell you that I have some Santa shaped lights that look like that. They came on an Avon light set. I know there was a snowman, an angel, and a lamp post. That may be all. Mine no longer worked so I saved the bulbs just for displaying. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  6. goodies like yours make me sad to be whittling down my stuff and becoming more minimalist in my house : ) LOVE the vintage bulbs, and santa collectors ARE a vicious bunch 😉
