This Week’s Vintage Finds #54
Hi everyone! I’m feeling much better today, thank you to all who were thinking of me yesterday. This week-end I had time for just one estate sale and one garage sale. You’ll be surprised by how many vintage finds I picked up at just those two stops.
Some of you may have noticed that I’ve been buying every cheap reasonably priced bread board that I can get my hands on. I’ve been planning to make signs out of them a la Denise…on a Whim, but I started storing them on a cupboard in my kitchen and have taken a shine to the layers and textures of the wood. This week-end I purchased the large oval one on the right at the estate sale for $6 and the smallest one, also on the right, at the garage sale for .50.
This nice little braided rug also came from the garage sale, at a real bargain. I’m quite fond of it, but it’s going in the shop soon, probably in the $75-80 range.
I think it dates from the 1960s and the handy-woman had some skill, judging from the quality of the workmanship.
I have trouble resisting small pieces of furniture that cost $5 or less, especially shelves. You’d know this to be true if you ever saw my workroom (which you will NEVER see), because it’s filled to the brim with various sizes and types of shelving. A girl has to at least give the appearance of being organized.
I couldn’t pass up a good condition CP3O, especially when available at a low, low price. You can find him in my shop (soon!) for $25. SOLD $25.00
I’ve got a small collection of Adirondack-y things I’m planning to list all at the same time. Since I’ve got “Adirondack” in my name, it seems only right to have vintage-y, Adirondack-y things. The trouble is they are hard to find. This sand timer is actually a NYS Thruway souvenir. The Thruway runs just south of the Adirondacks, but I guess they thought it was close enough to warrant bark and pine cones. Not sure exactly who needs a souvenir of a highway, but there you go. Someone bought it, right?
This nifty red, wool jacket, marked “Boy Scouts of America,” seems to be going on Etsy for about $50 when in excellent condition. Mine has two repairs that will put it more in the $25-30 price range.
Almost every week-end that I’m out garage saling I manage to find a selection of supplies–things I need to make or fix other things with: watch faces and parts (.25 each), copper spray paint ($1), wooden handles (.50 each), and wooden bowls (.75 each). I’m going to “antique” the bowls and attach a base to each to make pedestal stands, and I’m going to try to use the handles to connect cake pans to make tiered stands.
A few little odds and ends: A wooden mushroom (you would’ve bought it, right?), an 1893 primer, a fruit basket, a small wicker-ish basket, a nice deep frame, and a potato masher.
My favorite find of the week, this Primer is filled with all kinds of cursive writing and charming illustrations. SOLD $20.00

All your finds are wonderful! How will you part with any of those bread boards?! They look so good together. Yes, I would have bought the mushroom too!
Wonderful finds, Diana! I want to thrift with you! The bread boards and the primer are my favorites!
Such great finds! I always enjoy looking at everything that you discover! =)
Lots of great stuff, but the cutting boards, especially the large one, are my favorites.
Another great week for you! I love all of the bread boards.
I had a great haul of antique and vintage books, over 30 of them and a bowl from 1941 Germany.
Fabulous as always!
Diane, you found some great treasures in just 2 stops! I love the layering of your bread boards. I think the book is my favorite. Have a great week! Hugs, Dianne
I love the primer, I can never pass up those types of books!
Primer is precious!
Of course I would have bought the wooden mushroom 😀

Oh Diana, I love that Primer…how could I purchase it? Do you put it on your Etsy account? I have a Great Granddaughter that would be wonderful in her library, love to hear from you!
Blessings,
Gert
Love your finds! That wooden mushroom was used to put into a knitted sock when you must mend a hole…so that you won't sew the other side of the sock too. (my mom has one..)
I didn't go treasure hunting this past weekend, so I'm enjoying all your finds instead. Love all those bread boards you've been finding and that child's book is so sweet. Thanks for sharing at VIParty.
Such fun finds! I loved hearing about what you plan to do with the items and the price ranges if you sell them. Thanks so much for linking up with my "Let's Talk Vintage" party!
(Did I already ask you if you are currently in the Adirondack's? We have a summer place up there… just curious!)
Great finds!!! I love finding things at thrift stores and yard sales. Lately I have been visiting a lot of antique malls. I've became fond of vintage suitcases lately. Its fun to find little treasures. Thanks for sharing your finds. Come visit me sometime at http://lifeawayfromtheofficechair.blogspot.com.

Some fun things! I love the primer and yes I would have bought the mushroom too. Love, love the green masher! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Is the mushroom a sock darner as suggested above or a hat display or just a wooden mushroom? Absolutely in love with the primer. Bread boards are very hard to find around here – I am loving the way you have them stacked. Thanks for sharing your finds at Make It Monday.
You certainly did well this week. Fun finds. I really love the bread boards too and I would start out thinking they would make great signs as well but……
Oh I wouldn't be able to paint those lovely old boards! I love the layers too : ) Thanks for linking up!
Only two stops and you found all those treasures!? That's crazy talk! Actually, it's pretty stinkin' sweet. You've got the thrifting bug biting me hard. Too bad it's too late on a Tuesday night for any such thing. (and really too cold to think about running around town right now either) Thanks for showing off. 😀
