This Week’s Vintage Finds #47

My sweet husband and I drove to the West Sand Lake (NY) town-wide garage sale this past Saturday for a couple of hours. (It began to rain at noon. Insert sound of sobbing.) People held sales in town and outside of town in all four directions, so we drove from sale to sale, which isn’t quite as nice as strolling from house to house along tree-lined streets, but we made do(!).
A very kind lady who hoped to sell her small gift shop offered some neat things for sale, including this beautiful lavender, which she actually gave me for free. I’ve been loving it.

On the right is the nice sewing basket that I gave a preview of yesterday. I will list it for $15. I thought the galvanized carry-all was pretty neat, so I brought it home for $1.

Aren’t these the realest faux lemons you’ve ever seen?
Six of them for 25 cents. You will be seeing more of these–
We drove up to an old farm that boasted a gazillion out-buildings and my heart began to pound. I knew I would uncover some treasures…wouldn’t I? Only if you count the above scale (that’s brass under the crud) and the two brass nozzles. Fortunately, they came at a low, low price, but that was it for me. I’ll list the nozzles for about $10 each (or $20 for the pair) and depending on how the scale cleans up, $10-15 for it.

Collector’s Weekly has a Show & Tell from a reader about his nozzle collection.

A few odds and ends of kitchen stuff–coffee tins, a timer (for daughter Gracie), another grater, and two carbon steel knives with ultra thin, sharp blades that slice through sweet breads and cakes like you can’t believe. I love them.

The tin on the bottom is a bit older than the one on top. The orange and aqua look pretty amazing together. I think they would make great planters, maybe with herbs growing in them. They will go for about $10 each.

I stumbled across this idea on Etsy and just had to share it–isn’t it clever?

I don’t usually show the items I buy for crafting or art projects, but I thought you might be interested in seeing a few. I buy old music books to make the thank-you tags that I include in all my Etsy orders. I always buy vintage glass paper weights because I can insert vintage photos or some small art project and have an instant paper weight. The wooden game pieces (from the game Ginasta) are new to me. After we play it a few times, I’ll probably sell the 52 tiles for $15 or so. They’d be great for jewelry projects, wouldn’t they?

I “revealed” the purple tin yesterday in my preview. It’s a smaller version of a very popular vintage candy tin. I’ve got the larger one, too; maybe I should list them together? I bought the hand for our family room and my daughter noticed right away and said how much she liked it(!). The antique mirror has three little feet that allow it to sit nicely on a dresser. The surface is nicely aged, don’t you think? After a little cleaning, I’ll list it for about $30.

I bought another bread board to add to the pile that I’m planning to stencil some day. The scale’s in rough shape, but should clean up pretty well. I sold one in slightly better condition recently for $35. I think the spoons might be from Africa; with a mineral oil rub down, the wood should be restored nicely.

I told you you’d be seeing the lemons again…

Loving the scale face–

This full-size chenille bed spread was another preview item from yesterday. It’s in perfect condition and I just love the colors.

The fringe remains in good condition also. I think I’ll list it for about $75.

That’s it for me.
What treasures did you find this week-end?
