This Week’s Vintage Finds #163 [Vintage Fabric]

Hi everyone! Life has encroached on my blogging the past several days. I hate when that happens, but fortunately, I have quite a lot of back up photos that I can assemble into posts on short notice, without too much trouble. Today is one of those posts. Last summer I hit an estate sale where boxes and boxes of vintage fabric lined the driveway. Long ago I stopped buying fabric because (a) I no longer sew and (b) I find it difficult to sell. However, once I overheard the prices the sellers were quoting, I decided I would pick up a few remnants. I limited myself to five. Didn’t I show an enormous amount of restraint?!!

Vintage finds #162 at adirondackgirlatheart.comThis beautifully graphic MOD remnant was the first piece of fabric that I selected from among the hundreds available. I envision it as a perfectly draped maxi dress or as a piece of stunning wall art.

Vintage floral brown and black fabricHere’s a better view of this 1960’s-70’s era polyester (cost: $1.00, value: $25-35.00 for 2.66 yards). Available

Vintage green yellow orange fabricI only found two small pieces of this cotton twill with it’s marvelous, MOD design (cost: $1.00, value: $8-10.00 for 1/4 yard and 1/2 yard pieces). Available

vintage mod polyester fabricAnother ultra MOD design with contrasting blue and orange coloration and some citrus-y lemon and lime accents. A beautifully sheer nylon fabric, it would make a dandy scarf (cost: $1.00, value: $25-30.00 for 3 yards). Available

Vintage aqua and turquoise checked woolThis checked aqua and turquoise knit fabric (possibly wool) is so refreshing; it would look lovely as an A-line skirt or perhaps a pair pillows for the sun room (cost: $1.00, value: $10-15.00).  Available

vintage aqua and turquoise paisley cotton fabricThis wonderful, Boho, paisley fabric is telling us that spring is around the corner, can you hear it? 1. Five pieces?! Now that is restraint!

My favorite is the turquoise plaid. But it doesn’t look like knit to me. I think it is a woven fabric. Look closely and you can see the warp and woof (?) Not sure if that is correct terminology! I’m not a weaver. Your suggestion about using it for a pillow appeals to me. I recently bought an area rug for my living room with a lot of turquoise in it and I need some other items in the room to pick up that color. How much yardage is there?

Maybe it’s warp and weft. You know what I mean, though, right? The horizontal and vertical threads.

    1. Hi Naomi! Yes, I know what you mean by warp and weft–it’s definitely woven; I’m just not sure if it’s wool, a wool blend, or synthetic. It’s listed in my shop right now for $9.99 for 1 1/4 yards. I can take 10% off because you’re a regular reader/friend 🙂 If you click on my shop button in the navigation bar up top, you’ll find instructions on how to order. All of the fabrics are listed in my “Sewing” section. Thanks so much for your interest!

  2. Thanks so much, Diana for confirming the warp and the weft! I’m considering ordering it, but haven’t quite made up my mind yet. One more question: When you touch it does it feel soft or kind of scratchy like 100% wool?

  3. Vintage fabric is so much fun! You got some really unique pieces. I am running across some with the estate I’m am helping with. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
