This Week’s Vintage Finds #140

Hi everyone! For “emergency” situations, I have some vintage finds back-up posts, like today’s  filled with various ladies’ items. There’s no emergency at the moment, but I’m out of town helping my sweet mother move into her new “home,” one and a half hours closer to us. She’s moving into an apartment attached to my brother and sister-in-law’s hotel on Lake George (NY). I’ll let you all know how that goes later in the week. Ready to see some finds?

Beautiful gold and floral antique faAt a recent estate sale that I attended, vintage fans covered one entire bedroom wall. I picked out this pretty gold and floral one ($15-20.00, if perfect).

Antique Fan (2)
The area around the female figure’s head and upper body is composed of gold mesh, a nice feature. However, you can see on the top left, some damage. In fact one tear is almost 1/4″.

Antique Perfume Bottle 2
I spotted this crystal, Sterling silver-capped perfume bottle in a small basket at a garage sale with a couple of other items of no particular value. I realized pretty quickly that it was a good, old piece. In the photo you can see a loop on the side of the cap that would have enabled it to hang from a ladies chatalaine, or a kind of work belt for Victorian ladies. All sorts of useful things, like scissors, a small notepad, and a pencil, would have hung from it (cost: $2.50, value: $85-125.00).

Sterling silver top of antique perfume bottle
The beautiful, repousse cap needs some cleaning, but it sure is pretty. It’s signed “Sterling” on the side. [Rita at Panoply has a great article on chatelaines.]

Vintage Tiffany Perfume Bottle with Box
While this Tiffany perfume has nothing to do with the iconic jeweler, Tiffany’s, the filigreed bottle is quite lovely (cost: $2.00, value: [You can find the Tiffany bottle and box for sale here.]

Gold metal whiting and davia walletWhiting and Davis has been in the handbag and jewelry making business for over 100 years. They patented an ever-popular gold mesh “fabric,” along with many other kinds of mesh, that they used in manufacturing products like this bi-fold wallet (cost: $2.00, value: $20-30.00).

Vintage Whiting & Davis Tag
The tag style dates it to about the 1940’s. [More Whiting and Davis info.]

Vintage pink glass bead rosary
When I find rosaries made with genuine glass beads, as this pretty pink one is, I snatch them up (cost: $1.00, value: $15-20.00 or higher if sterling). The crucifix is unusual in that it, too, is constructed of glass (or shell?), rather than of metal, as many are.

Vintage Kilt Pin
A simple kilt pin (cost: 50¢, value: $2-3.00).

Vintage black and white floral pin
A sweet enamel brooch (cost: 50¢, value: $7-9.00).

Vintage Pewter Jorgen Jensen Hair Clip and mark
Final Fabulous Find: My heart beat a little faster when I found this Jorgen Jensen hair clip at a garage sale. “Jensen” is a name that has been on my list of “Would-Love-to-Find” items. However, once I took a closer look, I realized that Georg Jensen, a famous MCM designer of Sterling silver jewelry, is the name I’m really after. As it turns out, Jorgen is his son and a fairly well-known jewelry designer in his own right. This pewter hair clip, with its simple design, reflects his 1960’s style (cost: $1.00, value: $25-35.00). [You can find it for sale here.]

  1. Wow, I love every single one of them! Imagine finding that sterling perfume bottle at a garage sale, but I know you can find treasures there too. You really hit the jackpot this time!

    1. Oh! And my mother gave me her manicure set, and it has an outer metal fabric like the wallet you showed us. So fun and sparkly!
