This Week’s Vintage Finds #122
Hi everyone! Time to take a look at some of my purchases from this past week-end. I hit a couple of great sales and filled the van with vintage finds. When I pulled up to the first sale on Friday (at about noon!), I knew immediately it would be a good one. I remembered attending one at the same location about four years ago, when I had driven off with a number of good buys. Turns out the fellow holding the sale operates estate sales that I frequently attend. He has these garage sales to sell off whatever fails to sell at his estate sales. How about you? Any good sales in your neck of the woods? I sure hope so.
This vintage fan attracted me immediately (cost: $5.00, value: $25-40.00). No brand name and the blades aren’t brass, so it falls into the fair to middlin’ category. But it’s still a nice one and should clean up well.
Also from the same sale–an enamel-top table (cost: $10.00, value: $55-60.00).
It has a nice drawer pull and pretty shade of blue trim on the enamel. I stopped at my antique booth after finishing up my garage saling and decided to leave the table there since it was pretty much booth-ready. [Thanks so much Bob (my shop owner) for finding some screws and attaching the enamelware top to its legs for me :)]
You can get read more about vintage enamelware here.
A painted green box (cost: $3.00, value: $25-30.00). The only question is whether to stencil it with something. Maybe something like “No. 43?”
A smallish crate (cost: $2.00, value: $12-15.00).
A vintage wooden bowl from about the 60’s or 70’s. Nothing too special and the finish is flaking, but I like to paint them and let some of the brown stain show through (cost: $1.00, value: $15-20.00).
This one was made in Vermont.
I really like the oblong shape of this bowl, also from the 60’s or 70’s. It has a nice, almost dough bowl shape. You can see the finish chipping rather badly. I think it, too, will benefit from a coat of paint (cost: $1.00; value: $15-20.00).
Another pair of vintage leather skates, men’s this time (cost: $1.00, value: $15-18.00).
My sweet husband took me to a few sales on Saturday before we had a lovely lunch outside at Schenectady’s Firestone 151. At first I thought I might paint over the hand-painted flowers on this pretty metal tray, but now I’m not convinced that’s necessary (cost: $3.00, value: $15-18.00). What do you think?
This copper mold (plated with something shiny) intrigued me. Even in the photos you can see the copper shining through the shiny top layer (cost: $1.00, value: $12.00+?). Any thoughts?
A sturdy little work bench (cost: $5.00, value: $30-35.00).
An Eastlake style side table, with characteristic incised linear decoration on the apron around the top. I plan to take it up to my antique booth as is (cost: $5.00, value: $25-35.00). Interestingly, last week I also found a piece of Eastlake furniture–a lamp table.
Final Find: Isn’t she gorgeous? This delicate vase, onne of my last purchases of the day, is quite a beauty. The fluid, organic shape says Art Nouveau to me, and unfortunately, it’s unmarked (cost: $1.00, value: $25.oo+). I’ll have to conduct some research on this one. It’s a keeper for now.

Bye for now,
Looking for vintage?
Our vintage link party opens Thursday at 8 am–
Seeing what you find is always a highlight. Love the fan.
Love them all. You rocked it with these treasures. Great finds.
Ooh…you did have a fun day! Lots of wonderful finds! My favorite is the lovely black side table! And no…I wouldn’t paint over the tole tray!
Love all your finds but that table with the blue enamel top is calling my name. Good thing you are in NY or I would be headed to your shop right now. I wouldn’t paint over the flowers but I love hand painted tole trays as my back hallway can attest.
Love to read about what you find! I love poking around at sales even if I don’t
buy anything. I love old crates and the fan is neat. If the tray cleans up well, probably
I would not paint it.. I have seen items like the mold, but don’t really know about them.
As always you find the best things. I love how you give us values. My favorite is that gorgeous green pottery. I have a true weakness for pottery and can’t ever seem to get enough.
Great finds Diana:
The bench would be perfect for potting.
Wow, I love everything you bought… especially the enamel top table!
Diana, great finds!! That vase is very cool and unique!! I’d be interested to see what you find out about it, if anything.
Very cool things. I especially LOVE the vase!
Don’t ask me which item I like the best. I kept oohing and awwing to myself as I read. They are all great finds.
Love the fan and that copper mold. That Eastlake table is fabulous, and the vase is really something special. Great finds!
The side table is cute and look forward to seeing what you do with it.
Diana great scores this week–what a steal on the enamel top table! I am on the hunt for a fan but never seem to see them.
I have sold three of those enamel tables in my booth in Memphis and all sold for more than $125.00.
I wouldn’t paint the tole tray, I think it’s absolutely charming as is. The green vase is spectacular!
The enamel table is almost identical to mine. Steve found ours in my parents’ garage and it was my grandparents from their farming days in Kansas.
Thanks for sharing with SYC.
