This Week’s Vintage Finds #117

Hi everyone! It’s still early days for garage sales here in the Northeast, and even estate sales tend to be sporadic. The vintage finds you’ll see today, I bought at Salvation Army, a [new-to-me] flea market, and a [new-to-me] antique shop while shopping with my sweet husband on Saturday afternoon.

Today I’m starting a new FLASH SALE feature. On Tuesdays, when I post my vintage finds, certain items will be available to my readers for three days at a lower price. Just send me a note with your zip code and email via my contact form in my Vintage Shop, and I will send you a PayPal invoice. FLASH SALES end in three days, after which they will appear in my Vintage Shop here on my blog or be taken to my booth at the Gristmill Antique Center.

Let’s take a look at what I bought this past week-end.

Print from Vintage Godey's Fashionable WomenA framed Godey’s fashion print (6″ x 7″), with mirror on reverse (cost: $1.00, value: $12-15.00, FLASH SALE: $10.00 + shipping).

1930-40s Framed Portrait of Man with a MustacheA vintage portrait of a mustached man (4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″) in gold-gilt frame (cost: $1.00, value: $10.00, FLASH SALE: $8.00 + Shipping).

Back of 1930-40s Framed Portrait of ManThe interesting wire easel-back gives an indication of age (I’d say about the 1920’s), with the patent pending date of 1908 stamped at the top of the mechanism.

Original Watercolor Onions and Chili PeppersI purchased this attractive, original watercolor of onions and red chili peppers (16″ x 20″) at Salvation Army (cost: $5.00, value: $45-50.00, FLASH SALE: $38.00 + Shipping).

Vintage Wooden TraysI thought these vintage wooden trays would make some great stenciled signs (cost: 4/$3.00).

Scrap wood
As you may be aware, I’ve been on a bit of a sign-making binge lately. These fine pieces of scrap wood will make some lovely signs, too (cost: 3/$1.00).

Vintage Tray
As will this vintage wooden tray (cost: 50¢).

Vintage Chevrolet sign and boat doorsI picked up the Chevrolet sign at the [new-to-me] flea market in Ravena (NY) and paid a bit more than I would normally ($10.00). I can picture it hanging over an entry-way or French doors. Am I right? (value: $45-50?) I purchased the boat doors at the [also new-to-me] Sister Salvage, a very fun shop in Hannacroix (NY). I’ve got a few ideas rumbling around in my head for them (cost: 2/$10.00).

Rattan wrapped chianti bottleI guess I’m working on a collection of wicker-wrapped Chianti bottles (cost: $2.00, value: $10-12.00).

Wicker Wrapped Chianti bottles
This is officially my third. I’ve been using them to decorate with, so I’m not quite ready to sell yet.

Mouse Cutting Board with Bakelite KnifeAnd yeah, and I definitely have a cutting board collection, but no figural ones. Love this cute little mouse-shaped board, measuring 11 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ (cost: $2.00, value: $12-14.00, FLASH SALE: $10.00 + shipping).

Oak Cutting Board with lemon and bakelite knife
A newer, handmade oak board, measuring 14″ x 9″ (cost: $3.00, value: $15-18.00, FLASH SALE: $12.00).

Vintage Bread board with vintage scissors and lavendarA nice vintage oak board (cost: $2.00, value: $12-15.00, FLASH SALE: $10.00) and pair of vintage, Sheffield (England) snub-nosed scissors with great patina (cost: $1.00, value: $15-18.00, FLASH SALE: $10.00).

Foot on vintage bread boardThis last board has four knob feet that make it quite different and interesting.

  1. The Flash Sale is such a great idea! I love all the things you found to make signs. You have inspired me and I have been collecting wooden boards and things to do just that!

    1. Thanks AnnMarie for the affirmation 🙂 We’ll see how the sales go. I’m so happy to be an inspiration to someone!! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with–

  2. I see that I am not the only person who loved those scissors. And, I am reading a historical novel right now so I was struck by the clothing the ladies were wearing in one of those first photos. Can you imagine gardening or shopping with that much fabric draped about you?

    Thanks for sharing.
