Gracie’s Vintage Finds #1

Hi everyone! I mentioned yesterday that I would feature some of my daughter’s vintage finds; today I’m keeping my promise. Gracie has a great eye, and she’s not even remotely interested in resale. She bought/ items because she wanted them for herself. Today I’ll show you about 1/3 of the loot she brought home.
(NOTE: I updated most of the photos on 7/3/14 because the quality of the originals was not great. My camera had been  in the shop.)

She spied this phone and fell in love with it. Our house is newer, so every room has a jack. Her room is so full of stuff, however, she hasn’t been able to find the jack(!). (Not that she inherited the “hoarding gene” or anything.)

She enjoys any retro small equipment, like cameras. She was very happy to find this Hawkeye at a neighbor’s sale, and they kindly gave it to her. She squealed with delight over the $1 Polaroid, and displayed only slight disappointment when I cautioned her how expensive the film would be. She loves the idea of taking a photo and then holding it in your hands seconds later. It’s definitely a novelty!

We don’t know if these walkie talkies work or not, but again, squeals of delight. And they were FREE! My favorite price.

Last buy for today–a pair of candle holders. She’s always been enamored with candles and lanterns, begging for any that I bring home from sales. These will join the little collection she’s already begun.

One last look at the vintage-y phone. Pretty cool for $2, right

I think she’s got a pretty good eye.
What do you think?

  1. She did such a good job!!! Love the phone!! Just like her mama…has an eye for the richness of the past! I hope I can do this one day with my bean girls! Nicole xoxo

    1. It was a very rewarding week-end we had together–a teen and her mother out on the vintage frontier…

  2. I think Gracie did great! She has an eye for great vintage items just like you do!

    Hugs, Dianne

  3. Diane, do you purchase to collect or for resale? Do you own a shop? Just curious. I come upon your postings and find them interesting. I enjoy garage Saling myself but not for resale purposes. Perhaps I should.

  4. LOL….I have a Polaroid camera and several older ones from when my mom was little. My daughter, an aspiring photographer has them for HER collection. I find it funny that kids today don't know what it was like to have to use REAL film and wait for our pictures. I have film my mother took as a kid (she pasted last year at age 80) that still needs to be developed…..

    1. It is funny how the kids love the old cameras, but don't begin to understand how they work! I think you might be a bit too late on your mother's film (though wouldn't it be interesting to see what she photographed?!!).

  5. Yes, Gracie's got a good eye and CAUTION….it all starts with just wanting a few things for one's self, lol.

  6. Ha! Good luck finding the jack for that cool phone! I really like the Hawkeye and the candle holders too.

  7. I would love to hear about the business side of this fun shopping pleasure that becomes a profitable endeavor for you.
