An Occasional Table Facelift

Hi everyone! I bought a sweet vintage occasional table over the summer and stored it away in the garage until last week. I’ve been busy “creating” for the ongoing Shaker craft fair, and I decided to give this little piece a facelift and then bring it to the fair.

Occasional Table Facelift
It received a paint job, some distressing, a stencil, and a coat of wax.

Vintage Occasional TableIt was practically worn right down to the wood by the time I rescued it for $5.00.

Then I used a sanding sponge to distress the edges and let some of the darker wood color show through the paint.

Don’t forget to sand the corners. Corners always get knocked and rubbed in “real life.”

Then I applied the “Cafe Paris” stencil that I’m pretty much addicted to. In actual fact, I’m too cheap to buy stencils at full price, so I only buy them when they’re on deep discount. Often that means I’m not buying ones I really love. So then I go to my default, which I do love, and that’s Cafe Paris. That said, I just bought a really nice British flag stencil, and I hope to apply that to a table top or trunk.

Even for the most professional of stencil-ers have some bleed under their stencils on occasion. Can you see it up top on the words, “St. Soleil?” I decided it wasn’t the end of the world and left it. I’m not that professional.

Does she look like she’s surrounded by rose petals, as if she’s just said her wedding vows? Well I thought the lawn looked kind of icky in the photo above. Looking for a solution, I noticed my burning bush had lost a lot of it’s leaves, and I made a couple of trips to grab handfuls and sprinkle them around the table legs. It didn’t turn out so natural looking. LOL.

She’s now for sale at the Shaker craft fair. I hope she finds a good home 🙂

  3. Very nice table! Love the touch of French. Wish I could find a stencil like that one. I live in a very small town in Nevada so nothing like that available. Also love the distressing. Thanks for sharing this lovely table!

  4. Love it, it’s so delicate looking. I think the leaves give it a romantic look:) I’m not that professional either lol xoKathleen

  5. Hi Diana,
That table is so pretty, and I just love the legs! Love the color you chose and the stencil too, and I so agree about stencils being too much money. I have my favorites too that I use over and over. 😉
The burning bush leaves do almost look like rose petals!
    Have a wonderful Sunday!!
    Hugs, Kimberley
