Visiting Vermont

Hi everyone! Not too long ago, in early September, my sweet husband and I were invited by our good friends, Glenn and Sue, to visit their very good friends, Jon and Carolyne, who live in Vermont. We happily accepted. Jon and Carolyne own a stunning home on about 150 acres of farm land. We spent a lovely day with friends–new and old–in one of the most beautiful settings I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in a long while.
Don’t you just want to sit and rock for a while? Bob and I did–

Constructed of locally mined marble, the house mansion is stunning. Inside, high ceilings, gorgeous wood work, and fine pieces of original art set this home apart. Carolyne has skillfully renovated and decorated each room, making them warm and inviting

A small herd of cows keep the grass mowed through the summer.

If you’ve never visited a pig pen, I can assure you, pigs really do stink. These two handsome porkers were absolutely no exception. I think they’re going to make some great bacon pretty soon.

Isn’t the landscape just beautiful?

Old stone walls remind me of England where the countryside is littered with them.

My sweet husband and I shared the concrete lounger for a short photo shoot. Next to it sits a millstone table with some natural art in the middle–so wonderful covered with moss and lichen.

The Barn Sale

A Day in Vermont

Before our tour of the property, we ran to a nearby barn sale. We all had fun hunting for treasures. Carolyne found several–a beautiful wool and silk rug and three pieces of art.

I found the prices quite reasonable–
somewhere between a garage sale and an antique show.

This nice old corner cupboard, for example, sold for just $125. In an antique shop I think it would have been about double that.

I made just one purchase–this print of the Derby, a horse race in England. I decided I had to have it, not just because it’s English (and we lived there for two years), but because it mentions Derby, which is the city we lived in (pronounced Darby). The Derby race is not in Derby, but it’s named after the Earl of Derby. The word “derby” has come to mean “race,” hence the Kentucky Derby. I paid $5.00 for this print, presumably because of the water damage.

My macho husband, all done up in red plaid–this did not come home with us. You can catch a glimpse of the barn (as in “Barn Sale”) behind him.

After the barn sale and tour of the property, we enjoyed a delicious meal among friends. It was a lovely day.
