How to Make the Cutest Pumpkin Candy Container Ever

Are you sick of my orange sweater projects yet? I recently shared three projects involving an old woolen sweater: an autumn banner, irresistable pumpkins, and some darling hang tags.

It was a one sweater, three project series, but then my sister came along with some empty coffee cans.

It got me thinking: What if I wrapped a can with some left-over orange sweater and then added a jack o’lantern face? What a darling pumpkin candy container that would make!

Who knew one thrifted sweater could be used to create so many different fall and Halloween-themed decorations?!

Cute right? And perfect for holding Halloween candy, whether to hand out to trick or treaters or to give a child, perhaps a grand-child, filled with some special goodies (healthy or otherwise) from grandma.

It all starts with a coffee can and an old orange sweater made out of wool, although now-a-days, pumpkins come in so many different shades, you could use a white sweater, or how about a pale green sweater?

Make Your Pumpkin Candy Container

Step 1

Felt the sweater by washing it in hot watter and drying it in the dryer. This process helped fuse the fibers together to discourage fraying.

Step 2

Cut a piece of sweater to fit your can, making it about an inch longer than necessary to allow for overlapping when gluing.

Step 3

Wrap the can with the sweater, overlapped them in the back. Apply a bead of hot glue down one side and press in place.

Step 4

Spray paint the lid and a large wooden bead black. Hot glue the bead to the lid. Optional: Paint a couple of small leaves black and glue them next to the bead.

Step 5

Cut out facial features from black felt and glue them on, using hot glue. This finishes off the candy container nicely.
