A Personalized Command Center Makeover

Hi everyone! Lately, I have been attempting to deal with “problem” areas around my house. You know the kind I mean. Places where piles grow–counters, stairs, desks, etc, In my home, one of those places was a corner of my kitchen where a set of bulletin boards hung.

Before this project, you could find all kinds of paper tacked willy nilly–no rhyme or reason whatsoever. I decided it was high time to deal with the mess. So today I’m going to show you my solution–a personalized command center makeover–that I hope will end the chaos and bring some order to that junked-up spot(!).

A personalized Command Center MakeoverI think we can all agree that it looks so much better, right?

Messy set of three bulletin boards--needs makeoverThe embarrassing before shot. See what I mean?  (I’m going to use these bulletin boards in my work room to create inspiration boards.)

I picked up this white board/bulletin board combo up at a garage sale for a buck.

First, I gave the oak frame two coats of DecoArt “Primitive.” Once the paint dried, I lightly sanded it to give it a distressed look.

Then I gave it a coat of clear paste wax, and buffed it about ten minutes later with cheese cloth (you can also use a jersey rag).

Then I stenciled on a decorative border, using one of my new stencils. To spell out “Petrillo,” I used some letter stencils I had on hand. I like the personal touch of adding our name.

It’s a distinct improvement over the disaster-area you see in the “before” photo above. Right?
