This Week’s Vintage Finds #23

I had a couple of hours Friday morning before a doctor’s appointment to run to a couple of sales. One was an early garage sale — in the cold, cold rain down a muddy, muddy driveway! I bought one item. I also hit an estate sale where I found a few things. On Saturday morning, I drove north to meet up with family, but of course I couldn’t resist stopping at a couple of sales. Here are some of the things I bought.

I got a nice collection of crusty old pots that I’m planning to use on my deck this spring and summer. The metal thingy in the back is a cooling rack for cakes and cookies, but I think it’s so cool, I want to re-purpose it somehow. Any ideas?

Love the big spool of string and the ravishingly red level. I just sold a smaller red one on Etsy to an artist who fell in love with it, bought it, and named it Fred(!).

Red was the color of the day. This fabric covered box is a vintage Whitman’s Chocolates box, and it was filled with sewing notions. I couldn’t pass up the sweet owl pin, and the dish is Fostoria’s American pattern.
I just recently bought another, more formal, piece of Fostoria glass and talked about it at This Week’s Vintage Finds #22. I also provided a link to an article for more info about this type of glass.

I loved this big industrial Wiss, Made in USA, scissor and have, in fact, already listed it on Etsy.
Aren’t the colors of these spools of thread just gorgeous together? And perfect for spring. Pinterest has a cute craft using a spool of thread as a base.

love little birdies!

Don’t you just love them? Spring is definitely in the air.

I’m enjoying these colors so much 🙂

Final buy of the day: these two lovely angels made out of plywood and covered with some perfectly chipped white paint. I can’t decide whether to sell them or keep them. What do you think?

All of the above was purchased for just $15(!).

  1. Fun finds, Diana. You could take the cake cooling rack and add twine, ribbon or chain and hang it from ceiling hooks, add S hooks in the grids, and then hang tools of some sort – kitchen, garden, even bath (brushes, loofah). I love the natural string too. I have a small collection of vintage cotton thread spools from a crochet crafter's estate (haven't done anything with them, but I have them, lol). I recently found the Fostoria American pedestal cake stands – one round, one square – those are highly coveted in this area and go for a lot. I'm selling the round, keeping the square. 🙂

    1. What a great idea, Rita; I'm gonna try to make something like that work. Those Fostoria cake stands are GORGEOUS–amazing that you have both, and of the two I would absolutely choose the square one. It's a really unique statement piece.

  2. I'm loving that red level! So rustic – right up my alley. Great finds this week. I went out scouring yesterday but it was one of those strike out days when you don't score anything.

  3. You know I love Fred's cousin Carmine ! On Fostoria: m – in – law has large punch set and cake stands and various in sundry pcs -relish dish etc. When the time comes to downsize I'll keep you in mind.
