Hi everyone! I hope you had a nice week-end. My husband and I were real homebodies, staying warm inside while the temps outside dipped to -12º, not including the wind-chill. We did venture out to share a meal with special friends at one point, and we made it to church, but by Sunday things were a bit warmer. Today I thought I’d “reveal” a makeover I gave a small dresser that I purchased just a couple of weeks ago.
I discovered it in the basement of an estate sale, pretty battered and beat up. I left all the dings and gouges, which are much less noticeable in person than in this photo(!). Something about the bright light and the black paint highlighted these flaws and makes them look like scratches in the finish.
As you can see, it was in rough shape, but still sturdy and the brass Chippendale style drawer pulls were a big plus.
I only had to apply one coat of Deco Art Americana Chalky Finish Paint in “Carbon”to get all the coverage I needed. Once the paint dried, I sanded the edges and a few other strategic places (using a 3M Sanding Sponge) to reveal some of the stained wood underneath. Lastly, I gave it a coat of Minwax Finishing Wax..
I’m pretty pleased with how the underlying stain shows through the black.
It’s the perfect size for a nightstand, end table, or for storage in a bathroom. Eventually, I’ll be bringing it up to my shop, listed at about $99.99. Do you all like the black as much as I do?
