This Week’s Vintage Finds #127
Hi everyone! Hope your week is going well. I worked hard yesterday sorting through my week-end purchases and taking pictures of as many of them as I could. The garage sale season has definitely begun and I’m overwhelmed with “stuff” already–crazy. Would you like to see some of my vintage finds?
Today I’ll be trying to live up to my name (“Adirondack Girl”) since I have a few Adirondack-y finds, like this handsome fellow. He was begging to come home with me (cost: $1.00, value: $10.00). I think he’ll make a wonderful Christmas decoration, so he may be a keeper. (Ignore the schmutz on his face…)
I only wish I had my own Adirondack cabin to go with this cool birch bark and twig frame. Truth be told, I’ve not dealt with a lot of Adirondack-style pieces so I don’t really know how to date them.
The back of the frame shows a lot of oxidation (darkening of the wood due to exposure to air), but the hardware, though rusty, seems newer (cost: $2.00, value: $25-35.00?).
Despite its poor condition, I decided to pick up this birch bark frame. I may sell it as is, or attempt to stitch the front and back together myself (cost: 50¢, value: $15-20.00 if repaired). This piece has a much older look and feel than the previous one.
This homemade birch bark canoe has some rustic appeal (cost: 50¢, value: $10.00).
Perhaps my favorite find, this large antique cheese box from Cobleskill (NY), may take up residence in my home for a while (cost: $3.00, value: $55-65.00).
This enamelware basin, almost 15″ in diameter, is a wonderful shade of navy and would make a great centerpiece of some sort (cost: $2.00, value: $22-25.00). Check out my post on collecting enamelware for more info.
I was quite taken with the shape of this smaller enamelware pitcher (cost: $2.00, value: $10-12.00). If you need some help pricing your enamelware, you might find my price guide helpful.
Yellow ware bowls are not easy to come by, so when they turn up, I buy them when reasonably priced. This little green one in a swirl pattern is a cutie (cost: $2.00, value: $12.00).
Can you imagine baking in this get-up? (cost: 50¢, value: $3-5.00). Soon I’ll be posting Part II of my article on collecting cookbooks. Here’s Part I. (Sale Pending)
I paid more than I would usually spend for this old baking power tin (7.5″ high x 5.5″ diameter), but I think it’s worth it. I’ve never seen one this size, the paper label is in terrific shape, and I love the yellow color (cost: $8.00, value: $40-50.00). So what’s wrong with it? No lid.
I find a fair number of pig-shaped cutting boards; typically, no two are exactly alike. This one seems like a friendly pig (unlike my last one which appeared quite angry). I think I’ve finally found one I can call my own (cost: $1.00, value: $15-18.00).
Two pigs in one day–yipee! This little piggy seems kind of awkward, but I’m thinking someone’s going to love him (cost: $2.00, value: $15-18.00).
I’ve recently developed a “thing” for shoe forms (or “lasts”), having bought 3 or 4 over the past couple of years. I could kick myself now because this week-end I bought eight like the one above for just $4.00 (cost: 50¢ each, value: $10-12.00 each).
Each one has a number engraved on it, the shoe size I imagine. Now I just have to decide which ones I’m going to keep and which one’s I’ll be selling…

Bye for now,
Looking for vintage?
Our vintage link party opens Thursday at 8 am–
Great finds here! My favorite is the enamelware pitcher. I’ve seen that shape before in a large, gallon sized one… but never one that small. 🙂
Dear Diana:
That pig shelf sure took us back in time. Very cute. I remember collecting the cheese rounds back in the 70’s too! Thanks for sharing and linking.
Great finds Diana! I would love to be sitting on your shoulder as you go along…or maybe just walking with you would be fine too!
My favorite is the moose! And also like your picture frames, especially the 2nd one!
Great finds, Diana! Love the unusual pig shelf especially!
Oh I really love all your finds this week. The pigs are my favorite!

This is my favorite time of the week. I love seeing your finds. My favorite this week is the enamelwarehouse pitcher.
I love seeing your finds! And I really love the moose…if you decide to sell him please let me know because I would love to give him a home!
Any or all of your finds could come home with me. The enamel pitcher and basin are favorites but I love all the Adirondack pieces. If I had a cabin I would want them all.
Love that moose! Now is schmutz a technical term lol? That boat is fabulous as is the enamelware. You always have such great finds! Oh, and that cheese box is something else! xoKathleen Charm Bracelet Diva {at Home}
My mother actually cooked and cleaned house in dresses for much of my childhood. Times changed – fortunately.
I love the moose, but everything is a great find! We have nothing like that over here in CA., so I will just have to enjoy your finds!
