This Week’s Vintage Finds #82

Hi everyone! I mentioned last week that my sweet husband and I visited Lancaster (PA) for two days and a night not too long ago, on our way to a family wedding in Pittsburgh. I might have also mentioned that I bought a few things along the way. Today I’m sharing my vintage finds from Amish country, though none of them are Amish (that I know of). Everything you’ll see  here, I purchased at the various antique shops we discovered as we travelled.

Vintage rabbit feed sack
My favorite find. I’ll tell you more about it later on.
vintage adirondack style tables
This pair of rustic side tables has a distinctly Adirondack vibe.

I think they will look terrific in someone’s lakeside cabin (cost: $11.00 each, value: $30.00 each).

antique cross stitch

My sweet husband bought this for me as a memento of our trip (cost: $27.00, value: $40-45.00).

antique cross stitch
I love the soft, warm colors and the powerful sentiment.

A look at the back lets you know that, yes, it dates to the 1920s.
vintage side table

A vintage side table, which I’ve already painted, but not completely finished yet (cost: $3.50, value: $30.00).

vintage window and door

I got a little excited when I saw these two pieces and over-spent (cost: $15.00 (window) and $12.00 (cupboard door)). I’ve got some crafty plans for both of them though.

bolt of cotton canvas

A 10-yard bolt of cotton canvas (cost: $10.00, value: $30-40.00). I just bought my first drop cloth, and though I love its “weak tea” color, I may return it, now that I have 10 yards of canvas to play with.

vintage basket lid

I enjoy the company name, “BYRD” and the pretty cardinals on this basket lid (cost: $2.00, value:$12.00). I think I’ll clean it up and apply some Howard’s Feed-N-Wax and see how it comes out.

vintage croquet mallet and walking stick
I love the burgundy color of the croquet mallet (cost: $3.00, value: $12.00). My sweet husband picked out the rustic, hand-carved walking stick (cost: $1.00).

The handle fits nicely in your hand.

I can’t wait to clean it up and apply some Howard’s to bring out the color.

vintage dresden plate quilt

I’m not certain this old, double bed-sized quilt (Dresden Plate pattern) was a wise buy (cost: $27.00, value: $75.00).  It’s quite worn in several places, and I bought it to use for projects. But lets face, more project supplies, I do not need!

I think I’ll bring it up to my booth and see how it does.

vintage rabbit feed sack

Final Find: These paper feed bags are my very favorite find this week. They would look absolutely terrific framed (cost: $3.00 each, value: $12-15.00 each).

What do you think?
 I hope you’ll visit again.
I’ll be writing more about our visit to Amish Country soon.

  1. Loving those side tables you found up there! They are extraordinary! And that basket lid is so very cool as well! Your husband's gift to you is wonderful….such a pretty saying! Good luck with your crafty projects! Cant wait to see them and awesome finds! Nicole xo

  2. You always find wonderful goodies, Diana…my favorites this week are the wonderful side tables!

  3. These are so very unique. Thanks for sharing. I too love antiques if I only to hold and let my mind wonder on the stories that item could tell.

  4. Great finds, Diana. As my sister would say on the $ spent on the window and cupboard door, "cost averaging", lol. (Btw, that drives me crazy when she says that). Those little tables and that cross-stitch are my favorites. That $1 cane is cool too.

  5. Fun finds, as always. The rabbit feed bags are my favorite. The rabbit graphic on them is gorgeous. And they're red, white and blue, so they'd look great in a little 4th of July vignette. Plus, there is a little town not too far from my neck of the woods named Randolph. If I lived there, I would definitely want a framed Randolph rabbit feed bag hanging on my wall.

  6. You found some really great things! I love the bird basket lid and the feed sacks the best. I can't wait to see what you do with the window and door.

  7. Thanks for sharing your treasures from Lancaster County…which is where our home is. You constantly amaze and inspire me with what you find. Thanks for sharing what you paid vs. their value. I like everything, especially the idea behind those tables…I would have walked right past them, but you're right, they would be right at 'home' in a lakeside cabin.

  8. Great Finds! Yes! My grandmother had an end table like that…memories…Love the samplers and quilt squares…Excellent! I do love Lancaster…

  9. Diana, you were like, right in my backyard! I'm curious to know where you were finding all of these great finds. 🙂 Can't wait to hear more about your "Amish Country" hunt.

  10. Love so many things Diana. Starting with the rustic tables, the basket lid, the croquet mallet, just to name a few. : ) Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,

  13. Diana, Did you ever frame the rabbit feed sacks? To go with Patriotic stuff or Easter stuff? I’d vote for a red or blue mat, black frame. Have you ever learned how to cut mats? One friend took a class to learn; I go with “store-boughts.” I have seen numerous comments on your use of Howard’s Wax. Do you ever use their Restore-a-Finish? I love it for minimizing scratches/dings in finishes; it covers a multitude of sins! It stinks for a while, but it leaves a nice low level gloss; your mahogany colored table made me think of it.;that’s the type of thing I would use it on.
