From Vintage Belt to Beautiful Bracelet

Hi everyone! I have a quick upcycled craft for you today. I bought some old belts at a thrift store for 25¢ and turned them into funky bracelets. Depending on the belts you choose, they range from super simple to very simple, and I think I’ve just begun to mine the world of vintage and thrifted belts. The sky may be the limit!
From Vintage Belt to Beautiful Bracelet This first one has a fun, nautical vibe that will be great for summer.
belt braceletsHere are the two belts, cut down to size (approximately 13″ each). I would date them both to about the 1980’s.

end of vinyl beltFor the end of the white, faux leather bracelet, I cut it at a diagonal and sewed it into place.

end of off-white woven beltFor the rope bracelet, I cut it to size and held the fibers of the cut end in place with masking tape. Then I pried the metal clip off the tip of the belt with a screw driver and reapplied it to the masking tape end of my bracelet. I used a rubber mallet to lightly tap it into place. You may have to finagle the metal “teeth” a bit to get them to clamp down on the belt end the way you’d like.

Looks like the proper end of a belt now.

Here’s a shot of the white one. I think it would be fun to wear with a brightly colored summer dress, like sea green or tangerine.

vintage belt becomes a braceletI’m especially fond of this one and have had the chance to wear it several times already. I just love the idea of taking something old and cast off and turning into something attractive and wearable. The essence of “upcycling.” What do you think about my belt bracelets?
I’ve made some available for sale in my Vintage Shop.

  1. I'm going to be looking at belts in a whole new way! Thanks for sharing this fun idea, Diana!

  2. This is such an unexpected and creative use of wonderful old belts that I pass up all the time. I know my granddaughters would love a couple. Thank you so much for sharing at Share It One More Time. Cathy

  3. What do you do with the remaining pieces of the belt that is left over once you make one bracelet? I’ve been seeing this idea on Pinterest and am currently collecting a few leather belts.. But I now will collect the grommet ones as well Thxs Deb

    1. I used left-over belt to create a handle on a crate and have cut small shapes for crafting using my Sizzix Big Shot die cut machine. You can also create a different sort of bracelet by attaching a snap to the end for closure.
