Decorating with Vintage Flower Frogs

Hi everyone! Last week I wrote a post about collecting vintage flower frogs. Today I’m going to share some ideas about how to decorate with them. You could literally have flower frogs in every room in the house if you wanted to, that’s how versatile they are.

Scissor Caddy

I stole it a while ago and my scissor collection has been displayed, as you see it here, for quite a while. It sits on my desk and makes me smile whenever I look at it. I’m smiling right now in fact.

Cage-type flower frogs also make great caddies–for scissors, pens, or make-up brushes. You choose!

I finally have enough frogs in stock to make my own tree–yippee!

Flash Card Display

Of course the pin type flower frogs can hold any piece of paper, the true inspiration comes in the what. I like the flash card idea.

I really like the idea of using the pin type to hold photographs (and flash cards, obviously). I can see a row of three or five photos on top of a cabinet or two or three randomly placed on a set of shelves. Change the pictures out whenever you feel like it–easy peasy.

I think this idea could be used at a wedding shower or wedding, using photos of the bride and groom, or at a baby shower, using old fashioned baby photos (like the one I used), that you can find on the internet and print out. (I think I’ve seen some over at the Graphics Fairy.)

Flower Holder

I love the simplicity of a single stem under glass. A silk flower would work best, of course since there’s no water source. But if it’s for an event, the lack of water wouldn’t be a problem for a couple of hours.

Any other ideas you’d care to share?

  1. Diana, Thank you for sharing all these great ideas using flower frogs. I will definitely be using a few of them. sb

  2. Love flower frogs too but I sold 99% of my collection on eBay several years ago. Great item to decorate with and love all the ways you have shown especially the single stem under glass. Would be a great decoration for a wedding. The hairpin one is a favorite and easy to use for something besides arranging flowers.
Thanks for all the fun ways to use flower frogs.

  3. I love to decorate with flower frogs and I LOVE your creative ideas. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party. Featured on my Facebook page too.

  4. Thanks for sharing these great ideas. I have flower frogs from my mom and actually use them in vases. They are great in a vase. '-)
That said, I like them for other uses too. Love the idea of the scissors. I have an amber colored glass frog that I just sit out on a table for interest. 😉

  5. Great ideas! I have a tree stack and I also use some for little sign displays and to hold pens! I really love the succulent planter idea!
