This Week’s Vintage Finds #91
Hi everyone! Are you like me, wishing for just one day completely to yourself to get projects done, whether home or blog-related? I yearn for such days and today my hopes were fulfilled. For six hours I plugged away at daily chores, completed [almost] a couple of painted furniture projects, made a bracelet, hand-washed a pile of linens, and photographed today’s vintage finds. Such a completely satisfying day, and I didn’t neglect my family either. Plenty of family time was had by all. But enough about me, are you ready for some vintage finds?
At an estate sale I bought a vintage Monopoly game that, while in pretty rough shape, contained a large number of wooden houses, hotels, and dice. My sweet daughter and I plan to use these for jewelry-making projects, so it was a steal for just a buck.
I thought these badges were pretty cool-looking, despite their being reproductions (cost: $1.00 each, value: $5-8.00 each).
I especially like the ones with stars.
I’m hoping to use the handles on top for some future, crafty project. Love that red. The black one is made of cast iron (cost: 50 cents each).
The top, 12″ folding ruler was manufactured by Craftsman (cost: 50 cents, value: $10.00), the bottom two by Stanley. The piece in the middle is a caliper; the middle brass ruler portion slides to the left (cost: 50 cents, value: $8.00(?)). The bottom folding ruler measures 24″ (cost: 50 cents, value: $12.00). Collector’s Weekly has two nice articles, one about Stanley tools and the other, rulers, specifically. These should all clean up nicely and look great after a rub down with some Howard’s Feed-N-Wax.
These scissors need a good cleaning as well. Both manufactured in Germany, they will be added to my ad hoc scissor collection, currently on display in my office in some glass flower frogs. The pair on the right fold up neatly (cost: 50 cents each).
I am so in love with this giant pair of wooden candlesticks. They were actually a Goodwill find from a couple of week’s ago (cost: $8.00, value: $35.00). I love the wood but feel a powerful urge to paint them. What do you think?!
Bird house (cost: $1.00, value: $8.00). I bought the plastic rabbit with spring in mind; I think he’s rather handsome and may benefit from a coat of paint (cost: 50 cents).
Even though luggage this “young” doesn’t seem to sell in my shop, I couldn’t pass up this cutie for just a buck (value: $10-15.00). I may list it online instead. The table will be painted and decorated prettily with a stencil or graphic (cost: $3.00).
Awesome galvanized cream bucket (cost: $2.00, value: $35.00), cool-shaped bucket (cost: $1.00, value: $10-12.00).
I’ve had pretty good luck selling these small, vintage light bulbs on Etsy (cost: 50 cents for all, value: $10.00 for ten).
My sweet daughter likes them too, so some may find their way into her collection.
Drawer with green Bakelite handle (cost: $1.00, value: $12-15.00). Stack of funnels (for Christmas tree) (cost: $2.00 for all). Flatware tray/small shelf (cost: 50 cents, value: $8.00). Piece of coral (cost: $1.00, value: $8-10.00).
Don’t you just love this vintage bike? I saw it as I was leaving an estate sale and returned inside to ask for the price. $10.00. Would you take $5.00? Yea, since you bought some much already(!). Have you seen the bikes painted pink with flower-filled baskets? I love them, but I’m not so sure that my house lends itself to something this “cute.” I’ve thought about bringing it up to the shop, but I’m not sure I can part with it just yet (cost: $5.00, value: $45.00). Interesting article at Mud, Sweat, & Gears, covering the history of bicycles with great photographs.

Hi Diana,
Great use of your time – I love days like that! Good stuff here, too. My faves – the rulers/caliper, the bike and galvanized creamer. 🙂 Way to go on negotiating that bike for $5!
Rita
Great finds Diana and what a great score on that bike.
Kris
What do people do with old light bulbs? And the bike looks like its in good enough shape to still ride it.
Love your finds! I have similar candlesticks and they need a great idea or project. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours. 🙂
Oh Diana what wonder finds this week. I particularly like the measuring tools and bike.
Some fun finds Diana. I especially love the galvanized buckets! I have enough funnels that I make a tree for Christmas and they are so fun. I also have an old bike that is painted turquoise. Paid $15 for mine years ago. $5 is a super bargain! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
I love those alone days to be able to work at whatever I need to get done. They are few and far between though. I love all your finds – can’t wait to see your jewelry. Thanks for sharing at Share It One More Time. Cathy
