Toilet Paper Tube Birdhouse Christmas Ornament

While shopping in Tuesday Mornings one day last year, I saw the cutest ornament that I promised myself I would attempt to make myself. Everything I used to make this glittery toilet paper tube birdhouse Christmas ornament I had on hand.

Materials:

How to Make Birdhouse Ornaments

(1) Shorten your toilet paper tube to 2 5/8″ and set it aside (throw away the short piece you cut off).

(2) Cut a cardstock circle with a diameter of 4 1/2″ (this is your roof); cut it in half; set it aside.

(3) Cut a cardboard circle with a diameter of 2 1/4″ (this is your base).

(4) Paint your base (I used black).

(5) Glitter your base by applying a thin coat of Mod Podge and sprinkling with glitter (I used silver).

(6) Cover your shortened toilet paper tube with decorative paper (I used vintage music) OR paint it.

(7) Cut out a small archway, about an inch or so from the bottom of your tube

cone shaped roof for birdhouse ornament.
(8) Take one of your card stock half circles and glue the ends together (as shown) to create a cone. Clamp to hold while drying.

(9) Paint or glitter your cone. I painted one black and applied glitter (as you can see above), but I didn’t like the black roof with the black base, so I made another one and this time I didn’t paint it. Rather I covered it with pink glitter.

(10) Once the cone is dry, adhere it to your tube using a glue gun. Run a bead of glue around the top edge of the tube. Set the roof down, press, and allow it to
dry.

(11) Adhere the base using your glue gun, running a bead of glue around the bottom edge of the tube and pressing it onto your base.

(12) Cut a small triangle out of coordinating scrapbook paper, glue it to a toothpick and insert it into the tip of your cone.

(13) Glue a loop of fine cord to the top of your cone and you’re done!

I’m kind of in love with how it turned out. What do you think?
