Vintage Blogger of the Week: We Call It Junkin’

Hello everyone! Welcome to the weekly post where I select a vintage blog and dub it “Vintage Blog of the Week.” This week I’ll be spreading the good vintage news about Dawn at We Call It Junkin’.

Dawn has been blogging for just a little over a year and in a short time has established herself in the vintage blog niche. With a background in Historic Preservation, it’s not surprising that she loves history and vintage.

Dawn has wide vintage interests but especially loves Pyrex and other types of vintage glass. She sells it through eBay, but also keeps a fair amount to use in her own home, often as part of various tablescapes. She wrote a post at the beginning of August, talking about and displaying some of her collection (see above).

Each week Dawn sponsors the History and Home Link Party. Hers was one of the very first link parties I ever attended–back on December 10, 2013. My blog was just over 3 months old. Dawn’s party attracts some great bloggers, and it has been responsible for bringing lots of traffic to my site. I guess that makes Dawn instrumental in my growth as a blogger 🙂 . If you love history, vintage, DYI, and decorating, you should definitely plan on attending next Tuesday, and every Tuesday thereafter! UPDATE: This party is no longer active.

One of Dawn’s newest features is called “Armchair Junkin.” Its an opportunity for readers to “travel” with Dawn as she visits area antique shops and photographs beautiful and sometimes interesting items. We get to select the one we would buy if money and space were no object. The following month, she reports the “winning” item. Quite a novel idea.

I mentioned Dawn’s love of history; she has written a number of posts on various historic buildings throughout her home state of South Carolina. One of my favorites is Lorick House: A Victorian Charmer. This c.1840 home is covered with gingerbread detailing and all kinds of other decorative molding. Dawn took some great photos and filled us in on the history of the home. It’s definitely worth taking a look.

I hope that you will consider popping over to Dawn’s blog, We Call It Junkin,
and be sure to tell her Adirondack Girl sent you!

  1. Hello Diana, I just found your blog and was happy to find a blog from someone who lives in Upstate New York! I live further North from you, just a short distance to Vermont and Canada. I am planning my etsy shop and a blog, but have not taken the final step yet. I'm not exactly sure what I am afraid of, but I have been contemplating this for probably two years now. Good luck with everything your doing and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Adirondacks. Take Care.

    1. I grew up farther north and my mother is from VT–small world. Let me know when you start your blog and open your shop and I'll be sure to be a follower 🙂

  2. Diana, great post on Dawn. I have been following her for awhile – she lives just up the interstate from me. It is always fun when she has a post of a house or site I have visited. Love the Armchair Junkin' series. I believe her link party is where I first met you!

    1. My goodness, Donna, you have a great memory! I hope to develop some local blogging friends, but it hasn't happened yet.

  3. Hi there, I'm new here–hopped over from Dawn's blog! Great feature and I'm following you now, too! Blessings, Cecilia
