Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend 🙂 Ours was supposed to be a total washout, but after a good long downpour on Friday, Saturday was a perfect mix of sun and clouds, perfect, of course for garage saling. We hit a town-wide sale in nearby Melrose (NY) and packed up the van pretty darn well. Come back on Wednesday and I’ll let you see my goods, and of course, as always, I’ll share the price I paid for each item and give you an idea of what I think each is worth. Today I have a pretty project for you, using a vintage candlebox that I bought two weeks ago.
I had a quart of Sherman Williams “Sporty Blue” that I picked up at the Habitat Restore for two bucks over a year ago. I’m always hesitant to paint projects in anything other than antique white, taupe, gray, or black because those are the colors that sell best in my experience. But this cheerful blue won me over(!).
Do you remember this box? If so, give yourself 25 points! I can’t remember what I bought yesterday, so if you remember this from two weeks ago, bravo, you’re a star. I’m calling it a “candlebox” for lack of a better term. While it’s not shaped like any sort of antique candlebox, it hangs on the wall and it’s made to hold things, so I’m going with it. I’d say it’s from the 70’s and it certainly has seen better days. It needed a refresh.
So I gave it one coat of the Sporty Blue. I usually refer to colors in this family as “French Blue.” My guest room is close to this shade.
Once it dried, I added this simple “No 1” stencil–one of my favorites. I used it on some planters–black on terra cotta, so it had a much different look: How to Age Terra Cotta Pots.
Then I added some faux pink geraniums for a pretty contrast.
It could be a vintage-y wreath replacement on a front door or part of a mantel display. My hopes for it are far less romantic; I plan to use it my antique booth at the Grist Mill to hold paper goods that I have for sale. What would you use it for?
