Hi everyone! I have a super simple DIY project today–using just a few thrifted items that you may already have on hand. Don’t you just love creating something you love out of the simplest of supplies? That’s how I feel about my winter white wreath. Maybe you’ve guessed that I made it from a thrifted scarf?! (Oh yeah, and the wreath form was thrifted, too.)
I know it’s not a brand new idea (yep, I googled it–plenty of scarf-covered wreaths out there), but it’s a fun craft, well worth repeating. Besides, everyone has a slightly different take on it. [Did you see Sharon’s pom pom scarf wreath or Tuula’s fuzzy scarf wreath?] I’ve made a couple of wreaths from felted scarves, but that process is much more involved than simply using a scarf.
I started with a medium-sized wreath form.
Along with a longer-than-usual scarf. I picked mine up at Goodwill for $1.47.
I wrapped the form with plastic wrap to prevent the straw from poking through the scarf. Then I hot glued one end of the scarf to the back of the wreath and started wrapping.
Did you notice the knit flower that adorned the end of the scarf? Another one was tacked at the opposite end. I reused the pair to decorate my wreath. The other floral embellishments I made from pieces of a felted sweater I had on hand. With my Sizzix Big Kick die cut machine, I cut out the flower shapes, and the pearly centers came from the craft store. So, what if you don’t have a die cut machine–what could you use to decorate your wreath instead? How about some felt rosettes? Instructions can be found all over Pinterest. Or how about some silk flowers? Or even tissue paper flowers? I love my Sizzix machine, but there are other ways to make flowers.
I know simple is “in” right now…
But I think my mantel might be the simplest one out there. I only had enough January motivation to make the wreath, and not enough left over to style my mantel–LOL. “Simple” will simply have to do(!).
