Hi everyone! Many of you have probably heard of Lake George with its “Million Dollar Beach” in upstate New York. My sister-in-law manages a hotel in the area and she put together a great day for my mother, my sister, herself, and me.

The size of the limo impressed us, and then my mother mentioned that she had never ridden in a limo before. Thanks for coming up with such a great idea Elaine! We enjoyed a lovely ride through the country-side, sipping mimosas and opening gift bags that SIL Elaine treated us to. Lots of fun wine-related gifts since we planned an afternoon of winery visits.

Nick, our chauffeur, drove us to our first stop: Thirsty Owl in Saratoga (south of Lake George), where we ate a delicious lunch of several tapas dishes in their bistro and then enjoyed a wine tasting at the bar.
I had a glass of the cab/syrah/malbec mix and it was super good. (Nice wine terminology, right? I mean it had legs and had a great bouquet.) But really, it was smooth and deep. Loved it, and love the label. The actual winery is located about four hours west of Albany on Cayuga Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, home to numerous wineries. My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon out in the Finger Lakes and happily visited several wineries.
Third and final stop: Adirondack Winery located right in downtown Saratoga on Route 9. Two wine experts served a crowd of about twenty “in the round.” They served from the middle of a rectangular bar as we stood on the outside edge and sipped some fairly sweet, but pleasant wines. They purchase their grape “must” (fancy wine word for “juice”) from California.
We capped the day off with tasty traditional, Italian meals–lasagna, penne, ravioli, and chicken parm–at Mario’s Restaurant, on the northern edge of town, also right on Route 9.
