Today was too gorgeous to stay inside–sunny and seventy here in the Capital District. My sweet husband and I decided to head to Indian Ladder Farms in Voorheesville (NY), where we’ve picked apples and berries since our children were born. They offer many attractions for young families, but just the two of us headed out to the farm for a little couple time.
We picked a bushel of Kendalls (the type pictured above), a perfectly sweet/tart, extremely crisp variety. Juice literally ran down my chin at one point. They promised to make a perfect apple pie.
The farm offers many varieties of apples, many available in their gorgeous green apple barn for those who choose not to pick there own. [Notice the handsome door wrought iron door handles. Love!]
All sorts of produce awaits the hungry shopper.
Of course hundreds of pumpkins line walkways and fill wonderfully worn wooden crates, like this one.
And raspberries by the the row are available for the picking.
Today a terribly long line of people snaked around the back of the main shop. People lined up for their famous cider donuts, and believe me, they are delicious. Customers filled the tables in their Yellow Rock Cafe, so lunch was out of the question. Another day, perhaps. Other activities include horse drawn hayrides, a small petting zoo, and some fair rides. Families can make a very full day of it if they want to.
For us, it was a lovely day to be outside, enjoy the natural beauty and the old barns, and gorge ourselves on apples. Such a perfect day!
